Drive belt torque settings?

Post by ghmpm »

I replaced my CVT belt last week. All went well, scooter has 16000 miles. My question is upon reassembly my torque wrench died! Having no choice I tightened the two bolts by hand. Fired the scooter up and all seems well. The scooter is a bit quieter and smoother with the new belt.

My question is should I be OK driving it until I get the torque wrench fixed or replaced? Any ideas on this? Thanks.

Did the same thing............first belt change. Came loose. If you have the tool that holds the clutch and variator in place, you'll probably be OK.
On my first change, did not have that tool and that made the difference. 44 lb, variator nut 37 lb, clutch nut. [that's for a 2013 PCX] Yours is
more than likely same or close.

You have a Forza duh! It all still applies............. except the torque #'s.............. that would be 61 lb, variator........... and 55 lb. for clutch.

My torque wrench was a Craftsman so it was replaced under warranty. As soon as I can the torques will be checked and corrected if necessary!!!

Most garages and dealers do not use a torque wrench (although I have one). A good recommendation was to place a mark across the nut and metalwork as it will be in the same ballpark place as it tightens up and the marks will show alignment.

Yes, but I've yet to see a garage or even a dealer use them when tightening up major bolts of bikes. Not over-tightening is one thing to avoid, but once they are tight, mostly it does not matter a few foot pounds either way.

If you want to be careful and have a 'reliable' torque wrench to hand, as many are for from accurate anyway, then go ahead and use it.

Opened the CVT belt area and loosened the two bolts and torqued them properly. Not sure I need to do it but piece of mind can't hurt! :)

Always the best option, at least you now know that it is correct.
Keep the rubber side down

I have replaced several belts, I had one bolt come loose, I am not a mechanic, several have been OK, my Forza has 178,00 km 110,000 miles on it

I made a variator holder out of plywood and some wood screws, I get the bolt torqued properly

I am amazed at the tolerances of some cheap torque wrenches, varies a lot, no real precision

I had a belt snap yesterday? I think it did. A neighbour helped me get the fat pig home. Hard for two old guys to get it into my Dodge 4x4. Truck boxes aren't as long as they used to be.

I need a recovery day and then I pull it apart.

I watch 4 or 5 YouTube videos on belt replacement yesterday. Nobody used a torque wrench. Everyone just used a battery 3/8 impact and basically just snugged up the nuts/ bolts.
