We might consider a Kia Soul.
Mel,

I looked at the Soul also and one of the things I remember is that the Soul didn't have a "full sized" tire for a spare. In fact, and I could be mistaken, it didn't have a spare tire of any kind but was supposed to have a tire repair kit or something. I think they call it a "Tire Mobility Kit" or TMK for short.

Just something to think about when checking the boxes on the wish list. :geek:

Cool car though. :D

It hasn't been worth carting around a spare for the whole lifetime of a car for decades now........

We have a Kia Soul. It's a great little car. Really 'peppy'.
I call ours the Tardis, because it seems bigger on the inside than the outside.

Well, you talk a lot of sense and I mostly agree. Simple as that.

Interestingly enough, I measured our garage last night (the inside where a car would be parked). I did this because the entrances seem so small and I wondered if they could be expanded. Our 2008 Sonata clears the mirrors by inches on each side when we back out, so I wondered if a newer one would clear the doors at all.

Now let me get into the problem of expanding the doors. The builder had installed 3 black steel posts down what we thought was the middle of the garage, which obviously have to be avoided when parking. What I found out last night was that the posts are not in the center, due to where the HVAC intakes and ducts are routed, but are, instead of in the middle, offset to one side. They are only inches to the side of the entrance we wanted to park a future Kia Soul in. I doubt that anything bigger would fit on that side.

As for a newer, possibly larger Sonata? I don't think it will fit where our present Sonata sits. That door could be expanded but then the garage doors would not be symmetrical.

I don't know who developed this subdivision but now I know why very few vehicles in this neighborhood get parked in the garages!

SNAFU right Mel???

Measure twice . . . buy once. Or something like that.

It looks like the basic LX model comes with a "backup camera". If that's the case that is awesome. Hence, I would think the more expensive models would have one as well.

They are worth their weight in gold . . .. :D

So which Soul comes with leather seats...any of them?? I test drove one that had electric drivers seat, which was great, but it had cloth seats. Dogs have claws...and they get car sick, so having cloth seats could be a problem.

Our leather seats are much more comfortable than any of the other model-equipped cloth seats we tried when we purchased our Sonata. In fact, our Santa Fe had leather seats as well, and they withstood all sorts of dog abuse (not intentional abuse, just throwing up and their dog toe nails).

I loved my Santa Fe. Then it got murdered by a Millennial and the cash value for it was too low to afford to purchase a replacement. Still, the warranty for Hyundai and Kia make buying another one of their cars almost a no-Brainer. Thus the consideration for a new Soul, but it has to be comfortable. 12 back surgeries can't be ignored.

Weather Tech has seat covers that are good for pet spills etc . . ..

https://www.weathertech.com/kia/2021/so ... rotectors/

It looks to me like there aren't genuine leather seats available for any of the Soul models.

That said the "Turbo" model, almost $30K, does have synthetic leather/cloth trim seats.

The upside to cloth seats are that they are cooler in hot weather . . ..

That thing must fly with the Turbo engine. 8)

I have a dog car. It has seat covers in the front and a dog hammock in the back so what is underneath it isn't important.

We have 2 dogs and the seats have worn well. Haven't had any scags or tears and they stay remarkably clean. The Turbo is fast. We, however, have the 2.0 efi. I have had some fast accelerating cars in my time and, while this is certainly not the fastest, it is extremely quick - probably helped by its light weight. Off the line it is amazing, especially in Sport Mode.

Again I'm at odds. When I have the dogs in the car I drive like Miss Daisy is in the back

Well, I can't afford a Mini, so do you think they can teach my dogs to drive a Soul instead?

Of course!

It should be fine as long as they don't drive off the road chasing squirrels.

It's all part of the day to day rush rush rush and keeping up with the "Rat Race". :geek:

I digress . . ..

Back to bikes . . . it's the 60's now and no full face helmets are required for racing. One just needs guts and a good machine and a grin to win!!! :D

Again I digress . . . but it was fun.   8)

May we all be healthy for today and many tomorrows. Get vaccinated ASAP and ditch the COVID. :geek:
