2011 PCX125 ECU out?

Post by wallacem »

Well, it ran perfect until suddenly it would not start, nothing when I hit the starter. dash comes on but it acts just like I left the kickstand down. New battery, fuses all good. Took it to Honda, said ECU bad. $1000 for the ECU not counting labor. Any ideas?

Definitely get a second opinion. Make sure that all the switches are working properly, the ones related to starting the engine.

Well, where to start...

Many, many times the problem does not end up being the ecu, so start with the assumption that it isn't bad. Then, if it turns out to be the ecu, change it yourself.

You might get lucky and pick one up cheaper than $400 as well.

Let's start with the battery. You mentioned that the battery is new. Are you sure that it isn’t defective? Yes, there can be defective batteries. Find that out by having it tested under load.

Next, make sure all of the switches work properly. The kill switch and the side stand switch have a bad habit of going bad. Use a volt meter if you can. Take the kill switch apart and spray it with WD-40.

I have taken my bike apart at least a dozen times, but I had to start at some point in the beginning. I was lucky that Maddiedog lived down the road from me, and he was glad to help me. Try to find someone to teach you and you will be ahead of the game in the future. It will give you confidence in maintaining your bike.

Where in Georgia are you? You don't need to give us your address, but your town/city would be nice.

I think what Mel is saying politely is that it almost certainly isn't the ECU.
