thanks Whitenoise...still looking on this site almost every day...but, as I do in life, I only make input when I have anything useful to ask or say.
The update is that I had a good look at the back wheel area and guess what. The wheel bolt was slightly loose !!..must have been my fault when last changing the rear tyre....not tightening enough although I did torque with my torque wrench to the correct level...perhaps the torque wrench is out of calibration?... Now I am not concluding that this is the reason for the twice the ABS started flashing...but I suspect it is...will keep looking and watching....and update if anything further.

Theoretically the rear wheel nut is a use once and throw away item according to the manuals.

I have used mine at least 10 times.

you are of course correct Dave..and like you I have just reused the existing 4 times now...does a replacement nut have some sort of "locking" on it which is broken when unscrewing? being the reason for the guidance to always use a new one?

Look closely at the nut, there is a little one way metal ratcheting mechanism, very small.

I don't, but I have no idea.

The Honda Service Manual actually says to "Apply oil to the threads" of the U-nut. Torque to 87 lbf-ft or 118 N-m.

I do not know why they call it a U-nut but it is not an ordinary nut. I have a spare one in the bike toolkit but it is a thunderstorm right now.
