Forza 300: Key Replacement - HOW ???

Post by M0T0Geezer »

I just bought a used 2015 Honda Forza. The previous Abuser lost the extra ignition key along with the ID key "tag."

I believe the ignition key has a chip which would make duplicating difficult.

Has anyone else found out the best way to acquire a working second key?

The key does not have a chip. The ignition cover does have a magnet sequence.

I have made it so that my ignition cover cannot be closed with a bit of silicone.

A good locksmith can cut you a generic key but they have to pay attention to the shoulders. Try the key before you leave. I had a few cut wrong until they figured it out.

I had a few extras cut. One in my house, one hidden on the bike, one in my jacket.

The magnet key was available from China once upon a time. It came with small magnets that you put on the old key to get the north/south alignments right for your scooter. You inserted them into the key and covered them up with a bit of tape.

Good luck getting this done at a dealer. Most of the dealers don't even know what a Forza is.

And just a comment about keys in general. Your bike key ring should be minimal.

Mine has the Honda key, the GIVI key and a LITTLE RED tag so I can find them easily.

Having 30 keys on the ring is stupid. The same goes for your truck. Some of the new cars don't even need a physical key anymore.

I was riding my Forza too much. I came home and went to bed. The next days I could not find the keys. I looked almost everywhere. My Olympia riding suit has at least 22 pockets. I had put the keys into a pocket I don't normally use.

There is no chip.. Just cut the blank as you would do to any key.. The shutter door is not really necessary to lock as stated by Dave (above).Good idea to glue it shut also stated above by Dave..

Thank you for the quick help, everybody. After I started this thread a few days ago I found an earlier one on the subject of ignition key replacement with lots of good advice too. Here is the link to it as additional reference for those who come here:

When I bought my 2014 Forza it only had 1 key. Blanks no longer available at Honda shop but plenty on ebay. Now if you order a blank order you 2 of them. First one tried to cut the key and ruined it. Now called everywhere for someone to cut the key and no one would touch it. Finally a Honda dealer 100 miles away has the Honda machine to cut it. Once I got up there they couldn't cut it due to the piece on the key that opens the trap door on the ignition. So I took some cutting pliers and cut it off and they was able to make a key for it. Now I took the ruined key and put it with the key they cut and the ruined key will open the trap door. So 200 mile round trip, $35 for blank keys and $10.75 to cut it I now have a spare working key. He tried to match up a Honda key for it and couldn't match one. Now a happy camper

The Honda Forza key is standard except for the depth, so a locksmith will have to cut the key using the appropriate blank and then file down the base of the key so that it is long enough to fully engage. I had it done by Weston at Dup-A-Key in San Diego 858-750-2224, great work, reasonable cost. You can call around to your local locksmith to see if they can do it, look for an old school locksmith, or have it cut and grind it yourself. Of course that is just for an extra key, without the magnet locking part. I believe you can order the ones with the magnetic locking system on Ali Express:
