Ride Through Southern CT River Valley

Post by Old Grinner »

So today I decided to take my vintage KLR 650 on the road and head up north a bit through some local forest areas and parks. The last 3 photos are of the Hadlyme Ferry crossing which is currently under restoration. Up on the hill you'll notice a castle. It's the famous "Gillette's Castle". Once owned by the actor William Gillette in days gone by . . .. He was better known then for his role as Sherlock Holmes (see following link for history).

Very Cool photo's with History OldG, and I love the area!!! I know there's dirt but still it's my kinda get-away. Peaceful. Country style. And Water!
Back on the path, Look then Look again...there's a Can Am Ryker coming at'cha! I want to test ride that new 3wheeler! My friend told me it sits very low compared to Can Am's standard "3" ride. I See that. Hmm, so tell me (us) :D did he stop to chat? Did'ja flag him over? Or was it jest a Thumbs-up ride by?

WN - thanks and yes it was peaceful.

The Can Am rider gave me the "Thumbs up ride by" and with camera in hand I nodded with a grin. :D

I haven't been through the forest there in a while. It was good to be back!

A pic of the KLR from July of 2019 . . ..

So I took another ride today on the KLR to see what the condition of the forest roads is in my area and how dried up the water resources are getting.

They aren't kidding in the news . . . we really are having drought issues and the further east and north one goes it gets worse. The water conservation messages have already been announced in the media.

You can see from these pics that things have indeed begun to "dry up" in comparison to pics taken earlier this year in March and posted here. I didn't notice any erosion from heavy rains on the dirt roads either. It was nice though to get out and enjoy the Autumn color in the trees.
