Longest lasting rest tire?

Post by Gil »

What's the longest lasting rest tire out in the market today? I'm putting a lot of miles on my scooter and would like to extend the your change intervals.

My original front IRC, 2014 PCX on which I have done near 21,000 miles still have several mm's tread on it!, the rear IRC has been changed once to a MCG at around 14,500 miles!

You must weigh about six stone and ride below 30mph.
My IRC rear lasted about 5000 miles if I recall correctly.

The Michellin Pilotstreets are tough. Decent grip too.
Everything looks better from the inside of a motorcycle helmet...

I have used and liked the Michelin City grip tires for their grip and wear life. I guess I'll just stick with them.

Alx123, unfortunately the Michelin pilotstreet tires aren't offered in the right size for the Honda PCX and that's a bummer.

I have wanted to try the Dunlop Scootrsmart tires, but they aren't offered in the right size for the pcx here in the states. They are suppose to last longer because of the silica rubber used.

ScootSmarts wear faster than MCG.

I changed my rear Citygrip on my pcx 125 v4, it lasted 11000km (6800 miles) with mostly city riding, with a lot of acceleration/braking.

FIY, the CityGrip 2 is on the market now, that's the one i have.
The tread design is very similar, but there is some additional cuttings on the sides. It is also labeled as M+S (Mud + Snow), so i guess the grip must be better in difficult weather conditions.

I weigh 12 stone 6 :) and my 9 mile each-way commute has miles of 40-50 mph roads with lots of normal 30 limit town traffic. I don't ride hard full throttle but take off fairly sharpish and no longer have any clutch judder (still original clutch pads that looked great when I checked them last year).

Angel Scooter by Pirelli. They had a really stiff build and ride like it too, which means it will last a long time. Was not for me so I got rid of them way earlier than my wallet should allow.

The Xmax 300 comes with scootsmart tires, and on the adventure rider forum, when tires are discussed on the Xmax thread, virtually no one replaces them with another scootsmart. Citygrip seems to be the replacement choice…

Xmax 300 can also come with MCG as standard fitment.
Mine did and has around 5000 miles on it.
Judging by remaining tread depth, the MCG looks like its got another 5000 miles in it.
If it was a ScootSmart it would be new tyre time.
(I did over 30,000 miles on ScootSmarts with a Forza 300)

How often did you have to change out those ScootSmarts within the 30K miles?

Roughly every 5000-6000 miles for a rear and I put two fronts on it.
They were really cheap, could get a pair delivered for well under £100
Pair of tyres for the SV650 I had was around £200

The MCG's are offered in a variety of sizes which makes them popular as well . . ..

Almost a 5 out of 5 star rating on numerous comments.
