Pcx having problems with first start.

Post by Landonscoots »

I have a 2013 Honda Pcx, she has 16,000 miles and stays in Houston Texas. When you first try to turn it over after sitting for a couple hours it will try to turn over but won't turn over completely until after a few more tries. I put a new battery, spark plug, and new fuel in her and she is still struggling on the first start. Once she starts she runs perfectly fine no idle issues no dieing issues. When you shut it off it will start right back up with no hesitation. What do y'all think is causing this. Any advice will help. It's getting fuel it has spark I am lost at this point.

It is hard to pinpoint the exact problem area for that kind of problem. I think you are going in the correct direction by changing your battery, but it may be in the fuel. When mine has start problems I put some Seafoam in the fuel. Once it is running the Seafoam will run through the system and help it. If you have water in the tank from either bad gas or high humidity (Huston should fit in that category) you should be adding it monthly or per fillup.

What do you mean by “turn over completely” ? Does the starter crank ok but the engine not ignite ? Or does the starter not crank ?

It seems that you have a slow to no crank upon a cold start, then once it warms the cranking is fast .I would check all terminals and plugs in the starting circuit for tightness and corrosion from ignition switch to starter relay.Could be a dirty ig swtch or relay.

Possibly some sensor issue - cold start / air temp?

Please clarify your bike's symptoms. The original poster's description did not clarify what "turn over" meant. Does "not turn over" mean the starter doesn't activate, or does the starter engage but not crank over the engine, or does the engine crank over but it doesn't start, or ........ Thanks.
