Has The PCX Finally Met it's Match?? ADV 150

Post by big tommy »

I've had 4 pcx's over the years - starting almost 10 years ago when i had one of the first, just as they came out (remember the silver with the gordy brown plastics ?), then moved onto a red 125 one with black plastics, then matt black 150 with red shocks and finally a pearl white "LED" 150.....

Was time for a change and 3 years ago bought the newly bought out Yamaha Aerox 155i .....Was pretty pleased with that...

Couple of months back, felt it was time for a change - didn't fancy another pcx - "been there done that" and buying another Aerox seem'd pointless as virtually no diference to the one i was selling ....

Then, i'm passing the local Honda showroom, and spotted a new ADV 150 ...... Pretty darn impressive in the flesh...

Decided to go for it - And here are my (hopefully unbiast) thoughts after 500km's...

It's a great concept - kinda like an auto 150cc dirt bike - has commanding riding position and what with the wide bars, makes it surprisingly "flickable"......

I've been down a couple of (dry) dirt tracks and it coped very well........

Round town its pretty light and numble, so can weave in and out of traffic very much like a PCX would.

A real plus point is how it handles the lumps and bumps in the roads, far better than scooters like the Aerox / N Max and PCX would ....

Has decent under seat storage and what with the handle bar hooks (60b each from Big C !) and the rear box, makes a perfect shopping vehicle when you live in a busy city..

The rear disc / Showa rear shocks / ABS are welcome additions over the PCX .......

Only real downside is that the foot boards are a tad too thin for normal "western" width feet - Maybe was based on Thai people's feet ? - Not a major problem though .....

Overall very pleased and i'd be most surprised if this doesn't become a big seller for Honda and that manufacturer's dodn't copy the concept ........
.

ps: - Mods - i think its time that the ADV 150 had it's own subsection as i think this baby is here to stay !

ps: I've just ordered one of these kits - They look like the real deal...

Hopefully should "pep" it up a little ....

Will fit when the bike is run in (1,000km's) and oil changed to synthetic.....

Hmmm, nice to have abs and rear disc brake but the ground clearance looks too low for any serious off roading... also the belt is not meant to be used in high torque uphill climbing... It will start smoking and burning, ask me how I know.

To be honest, given these two issues, I don't see how scooter can pretend to be a dirt bike, as to me, it's neither a scooter (not as efficient with these tires) and it's nothing like a dirt bike.

Seems that if you have to use gravel road, you can just use the PCX, unless it's flat roads, with mud or sand when some grip would be useful but no need for suspension travel... But with these front mudguard being so close to the wheel, seems it wouldn't be that good in muddy conditions anyway.

Congrats thought, hope you like it! That's all that matters...

Considering that I would not dare to take my PCX down a dirt road or what I might call a forest ranger back road, I might consider it with one of those ADV150s. I can see that the front wheel does not have a lot of clearance, but I think it could still make it on unpaved, semi-level dirt roads.

As for the foot position, I still haven't figured out who designed that on the PCX! I am sure that the new ADV150 uses the same specs. Come on Honda. Who has feet that narrow in Europe or the United States? At least give us an optional piece of plastic that is wider! I have taken mine apart enough to know that you could design a wider one that could easily replace the one that comes on it from the factory. Well, mine is a 2013 model, so they won't make one for mine, but hey, look at the ADV. Maybe you could make something for it?? Honda, are you listening?

Love it! One of the biggest issues I have with the PCX is that on less than perfect roads the syspension will bottom out - and last week I got lost and ended up having to do a few km on dirt, which the PCX handled well, but I did worry about it. My first scooter was a Yamaha majesty 250. The air intake for the belt cooling sucked dirt off the road- ridiculous. It would be perfect for Australia.

Its a styling exercise, nothing more.
Essentially a PCX with long travel suspension and a cosmetic makeover.
Well, cosmetic makeover in the same sense as this sort of thing

The members here who have gone off the threads topic (with their chosen humor) truly meant no disrespect. They are joking around with All of us (those reading, of course). Some appreciate the fun of it, some don't. Those that don't simply ignore "those parts" of the thread. Mind you IF someone goes beyond "fun" it/they will be dealt with. It will take you more visits to our forum to get to know us better especially "the outspoken ones" (they know who they are,...me included :D

We appreciate your bringing Your spanky new ADV150 LIVE to us via our forum's platform. Photos are such a Plus and You have provided them as well. We Thank You!

Beer helps and...it's Holiday time!! :P :P

Re your suggestion to create a sub-forum for this newly introduced Honda ADV150. We will watch how the ADV market unfolds. In the U.S. nothing said in Concrete of her coming to our shores. We will most certainly keep abreast of Honda's Concrete intentions.
I'm thinking Many await the new Cosmetic's that adorn this new moto/scooter and would love a Go at one. Nice change's imo.

Said it Once, said it twice and I'm sayin' it again.....Bring it Honda!

Cheers big tommy and Enjoy 8)
