Mt Washington - NO scooters permitted
Some say it has the most dangerous weather in the USA ...
Interesting - scooters are not permitted to go up Mt Washington.
Can you guess why?....before you read the 'Restrictions'

High winds and low temperatures mean ice...plus trying to ride with winds of 27 mph is quite difficult on a level road. Going up a mountain would be almost impossible.

Re: Mt Washington - NO scooters permitted
Weather up there can most definitely be extreme. . ..
Motorcycles are allowed.
The first thing you notice on the way up the "Auto Road" is the smell of burning brakes.
A lot of people just don't realize how much strain they put on their vehicles descending on the return trip. Slow and and low gear is the only way to go back down . . ..
I've done it on my KLR years ago. The following pics were sent to me from a couple who had ridden up on their Gold Wing. They were nice enough to take one of me too. Yup, that's how long ago it was.

Here's a link to a picture of the entrance to the Auto Road. I don't see any scooters either.
The pic of me in the previous post was taken when I was standing along the way to your left. I had already been up to the top. The Wing riders had gotten a couple of good pics of the "Cog Railway". You can always take that if you don't want to drive a car or ride up.

The statement from the group controlling the road is that - scooters have no engine braking on the way down - and brakes will absolutely fail before you reach the bottom without help from the engine and transmission. There is also a list of cars which are not permitted to go up - because of what will happen when they try to come down.Mel46 wrote:High winds and low temperatures mean ice...plus trying to ride with winds of 27 mph is quite difficult on a level road. Re: Mt Washington - NO scooters permitted
I found a couple of images from my old Polaroid pics taken during that same trip to Mt. Washington. The Honda Wing riders used my camera to take a pic of me at a place we could pull over on the way back down on the Auto Road. Not quite a "scenic overlook" but it didn't obstruct traffic.
I took another pic from the parking lot at the top looking onward to the "Cog Railway" with the same camera. Times have changed. But back then it was a big deal to see a Polaroid snap shot right away and not have to take a roll of film somewhere to get developed.
