IN the early 70's I worked in a Victorian thread mill in my home town as a semi-skilled engineer responsible for day to day maintenance of the twisting frames shown in the pic. I had around 60 of these to look after and the heat and noise were way above anything which would be tolerated these days, let alone the risk of injury. However, i was happy with my lot.

However, my father pushed me into going to night school to get some qualifications. Actually, he was smart enough to bribe me with a 125cc Honda to get to the classes, something which I could't resist. I crashed that bike but got the necessary passes to go on to full time education and my my BSc, and things took a turn for the better thereafter. Funny old life!

Retired as a computer engineer. Prior to that I spent 12.5 years in Coast Guard aviation, flying all over the world...no, they don't just guard the coast!

i spent my first 20 working years doing factory work mostly chemical factorys i worked for sterling varnish making electrical insulating varnish. Never dreamed id be a bus driver but all the factorys are gone now sterling closed in 1992.
