Looking for GTZ8V battery for 2016 Honda PCX 150

Post by smrbike »

If you look at my previous, I purchased the GTZ8V battery and it has been great, but due to Covid, little use and even worse little charging. Rest state apx 12.55 Vdc now and from past history before i take it "out" again, I would like to locate a decent replacement without going to the Honda dealer and paying extra.

Suggestions appreciated.

I came across that one (KMG YTZ7S Battery Compatible with Honda 150 PCX150 2013-2014 ) a couple of years ago when I purchased the GTZ8U before being replaced with the YTZ8U at 2-3 times the price. That battery "may" be compatible re sizing/fit, but my concern then as now, is it up to the job. It is 6AH vs 7.4AH (25% higher), 120 CCA same in both. From what I recall, this battery was/Is for the RUKUS.

2016 and newer have a higher electrical need (supposedly), What year is your PCX150?
How long did yours last before needing replacement?
It's certainly cheap enough to get a new one every year vs the $100-$150 versions.

If you recommend it, I'll experiment with it for $31.
Wait for reply first - Thanks in Advance!

I found a YTZ7S on Amazon and called the seller (in Canada) and he said that he would not recommend YTZ7S for the PCX150. Get the new replacement battery. Since then I finally found the answer!!!!

The GTZ8V is a Sealed WET Cell Battery that has been discontinued and replaced with the YTZ8V that is now AGM!!! It should last 2-3 times as long as the wet cell version. The few GTZ8V batteries I have found must be left over stock and OLD. Do Not Purchase. I will be getting the new AGM version.

Again, Thank You.

From Yuasa:

Yuasa launch new Yamaha & Honda OEM replacement battery
Yuasa, the worldwide leader in motorcycle batteries, has introduced the new YTZ8V battery to its world-famous YTZ range. The absorbed glass mat (AGM) battery is designed to replace the Original Equipment (OE) battery in the 2015 Yamaha YZF-R3 sportbike and 2015 Honda PCX150 scooter.

The YTZ8V provides a significant increase in power despite its small, lightweight size. It delivers an impressive 120 Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) despite measuring just 113mm x 70mm x 130mm and weighing 2.7 kg

The high performance YTZ battery is 12 volts, rated at 7.4 AH. It is supplied factory activated and ready to fit. In addition to the YZF-R3 and PCX150 the YTZ8V also has a number of other applications as either the standard battery or a higher performance upgrade option.

The AGM technology used in the YTZ8V is an advanced battery design that eliminates water loss. Because of its lead calcium design, an AGM battery will hold its specific gravity more than three times longer than conventional lead antimony types. This means much longer periods between charges when the battery is used less frequently, such as winter storage.

The Yuasa YTZ8V AGM battery is shipped factory activated, which means it does not require filling before installation. An extensive activation process ensures complete absorption of the electrolyte so no liquid acid is contained within the battery. This process allows these batteries to be shipped from the factory ready to install. Also, since the electrolyte is absorbed in the special plates and separators, there is no need to worry about leaks on valuable vehicle parts and accessories.

As the world’s leading battery brand and OE supplier to all of the top ¬motorcycle manufacturers, every Yuasa battery provides the same high performance, quality and reliability as the bike’s original.

Not often acknowledged, only Yuasa and GS produce genuine YTX, YTZ and GYZ high-performance batteries, these codes have become generic throughout the industry but are, in fact, registered to GS Yuasa.
