Let me clarify that. . .your 95RON would actually equal our 91 or 92 Octane in the U.S.. Our 87 Octane would equal your 91 or 92RON.

It's just that here in the U.S. we basically have 87 (Regular), 89 (Mid-Grade), and 91 or higher (Premium) Octane to choose from. Sometimes it can be as high as 93 Octane.

The higher the grade the cooler it runs. . .basically better for higher compression, hotter running engines. It won't ignite as quick as regular gas.

During the Summer I use 89 Octane (U.S.) in my sportbike and in the cooler seasons I use 87 Octane. I find that by using the 89 Octane in summer the bike doesn't tend to surge quite so much in around town traffic where I rarely can get out of 3rd gear. It's like a horse chomping at the bit. . .it wants to let loose but I have to keep holding it back. . .and everything on it is set right.

Pay at pump means no faffing taking helmet off or leaving scoot un attended. Too,risky these days in London. Plus Morrison points will soon add up

I've been using Asda 97 ron for 3 years in the PCX and it runs great and gives very good mpg. Some fuels may give a few mpg more or fractional % advantage in performance, but any UK fuel should meet a given standard and be fine.

I found using non ethonal gas improved my mpg grately in three of my cars. I have been using non ethonal gas in my PCX and is doing well. Improved mpg in my cars and no worries of ethonal ruining my fuel lines. I didn't believe tha it would improve my mpg, but in my Acura TL, Toyota RAV4 and now my Honda Civic all get much better mpg. 4 to 15 mpg improvement is paying back in gas savings.

I usually get Shell gas. The 87 and 89 octane in my neck of the woods all contains 10% ethanol. So I regularly use additives. . .Marvel Mystery Oil for top end lubrication and decarbonization and StarTron to fight ethanol related fuel issues. I use the StarTron mostly from October through May or when it's really tropical in the Summer. When I go through tanks of fuel frequently in the warmer months I use the Marvel Mystery Oil more often.

It is what it is. . .but the machines keep on going.

In the UK, since unleaded was introduced, any UK fuel could (and usually did!) contain up to %5 ethanol without having any extra labeling or such to advise that is the case. Since '13, that limit was increased to %10 but most outlets for public consumption did not introduce E10 (as it is known) and were not forced to till late '16. Many parts of europe have been using E10 but not the UK, and pumps are supposed to clearly show E10 alongside the chosen fuel.

Ethanol is only about %30 as efficient as petrol but it's added to cut down on bad emmisions, thing is economy and performance are supposed to drop. Only a few premium fuels such as Shell's more expensive petrol were Ethanol free, but that probably changed to at least a few % Ethanol over the years.

Most modern engines should run fine, albeit less efficient. May explain why some people say their bikes/cars/whatever's run slightly better and give slightly more mpg using more expensive fuels. All fuels should contain base additives to help the engine, so it comes down to paying about 5-10 pence more litre for premium fuel against good but slightly less efficient normal fuels.

UPdate to my Fuel tank retrofit.

Post by Gil »

I have ordered a new 2016 fuel tank, for 46$ + shipping, and have gotten a used fuel pump assembly from ebay for 35 USD. I also ordered new rubber fuel pump sealing gaskets. I only foresee the plastic fuel lid being an issue as the lid mechanism is quite cumbersome on the 2013 scoot. I'm planning to address that by using my 3D printer to print a latch mechanism. Will start a new thread when I start to work on it.

Quite a bit of misconception about what octane ratings actually mean - here's a good video that clears it the misconceptions about performance etc once and for all - that delivers it in an "adult" way.

My wife and I have the 2013 model, which does not have a meter on it to track might etc. We calculate that from filli up to fill up ourselves. Our best was 141 might and that was done on my wife's scooter with me carrying extra gas. She made it to the gas station on fumes. Never again! (I had not planned on her testing the mileage at that time, so I was waiting for the bike to quit any minute.)
Currently own:

Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Are you meaning 141 US MPG? or 141 Miles on a tank?

My best economy to date is a shade under 45 km/l

That was 141 miles per tank. The older model has the smaller tank, and when it says empty you have no idea how close it really is to empty, so you just keep going until you find out...or find a station.

I think we can work it out fairly easily. On my bike we know it's a 6l tank (probably slightly more since I fill it up to the point of overflowing) and if I do 230km and it takes 5l to fill it back up to overflowing then reasonably safe to assume there was still 1 litre left in the tank which at 46km/litre means it should last another 46km if it continues to be ridden in the same manner.

Personally, once the last segment starts flashing I like to get to a gas station within 10km or so - probably another 20 or 30 km in the tank - but I have nothing to gain by testing that theory. One thing I am aware of though is just how much the economy changes with speed (and even wind) - I get 230km on a tank comfortably at 50km/hr and I've had to endure an uncomfortable number of km with the last segment flashing to conclude a 150km journey that was "mostly" WOT (even some of that was backed off due to fuel concerns) - and the journey to that location was 30km more, ridden in the same style - difference probably mostly being wind.
