Ever heard of a PCX 150 or a similar scooter geting stolen?

Post by Newsasquatch »

Hi, Im concerned with getting my PCX stolen because I don't intend on getting full coverage to save $$$. Any of you ever heard of a PCX or similar scooters getting stolen? What could have been done to prevent that from happening? What precautions could I take to protect my scooter? Thanks all!

Yes, scooters get stolen all the time.
Don't skimp on insurance.
The thing with insurance is that you don't need it right up until the time you need it and by then its too late to get it if you don't have it.

Anti-theft measures are a bloody nuisance to have to keep fitting on and taking off.
Good insurance means you don't have to bother with all that hassle.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Yup, that was my scooter. The thread is http://www.hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6529

The PCXs are beautiful rides and particularly attractive to young men. I would get the insurance and take prudent precautions.

I've never heard of of a scooter being stolen but I've read of one here recently. But an infinite amount more that haven't.

Search or look at recent posts? There's a lot more information besides that.

What precautions do you thing you could do to meet your own personal circumstances?

No doubt, Homie. While they may be attractive to young men, they appear to be ridden by a majority of the old, in my experience.

Where I am the sleek young guys are particularly attracted to sport bikes. The beefier--(I almost typed r instead of f and either way I'd be right) guys go for Harleys. I don't think I've seen any PCX's but a goodly number of Helixes and a few Reflexes are in evidence on our local streets. These latter are always piloted by "mature" individuals.

I get the feeling that the average intelligence quotient in my area is a little on the low side and this would account very nicely for the dearth of PCX's around here.

Haha, well the measures I was thinking of doing was getting some kind of ulock, as well as an alarm. The problem that I have is that I got a DUI in 2008 and even after I didn't need an sr-22, the insurance company I had still kept me on it without me knowing, so one time I cancelled the insurance, and they reported me, and got my license suspended for 6 months. Even though I haven't had any points added to my record since then, the dui and all that other drama still affects my rates.
I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty expensive.
Do y'all think that if I had an alarm and a ulock it would still be unsafe to not have insurance?

So I read the entire thread and it appears that my best bet is to explore the rates of these insurance companies, but also look into an alarm, a disk lock for the rear break, and a locked cover of some kind.

Wots a DUI/sr22?

Ultimately it all depends on YOUR appetite for risk and YOUR personal circumstances. If you can afford to lose it then take the risk, if not then pay the premiums for peace mind.

Really, it depends on where you're at--is it a dicey neighborhood? Can you keep the bike in a garage? Where do you intend to park it when you go out riding? I will tell you this, the alarm locks that I have had would have been more like comic relief for the thieves than any kind of deterrent--the thing was just not that startlingly loud. And my alarm would go off while I was out riding. I would stop, dig the lock out of the trunk, turn it off, and ten mins later it did it again. Finally I took the batteries out; the lock is still useful and doesn't make a damn nuisance of itself every time I go over a bump in the road.

An sr22 is a document that ensures that a drunk driver has insurance. The moment that driver is unensured, the DMV is notified, and the drunk driver's license is suspended.
