Special tool to remove drive pulley

Post by outlander »

Tonight I attempted to swap out the rollers but could not undo the drive pulley nut.

The service manual states I need tool 07725-0030000. It's $90. What is the cheaper alternative?

Check at AutoZone. I think they may even lend tools for free. An alternative might be some of the local rental shops.

you can get one on Ebay for 9$. It may take a week to get to you--being sent from China--but it should do the trick. When I fool with variator or clutch I use an impact wrench both to loosen and--this is heretical to some-- to tighten again.

What does the author of this mean "buy one from Honda"? Why buy one from Honda when you can get a chinese knock-off for 9 bucks?

Search eBay or Amazon for "variator tool", you might also need a tool to hold the clutch drum, I use a large strap wrench.

Actually you can use the variator holder with the clutch too--stick the pins in the holes of the clutch cover.

True, you can do that but its not very secure, I prefer the strap wrench.

Those are great. That's what a lot of shops use for clutch baskets and such and you can use it on many different clutches.

It is a heavy tool but it works and is adjustable like a vise grip.

I got a generic version, variously named as a clutch tool, a pulley holder and variator tool.
In principal they all do a very similar job in a very similar way, and as mine is adjustable, it is suitable for a range of sizes and shapes etc.
it was about 1800 yen (certainly less than 2000), which is about 18-20 USD I think
Amazon Japan has a few varieties (no good to you I know) and that means that regular Amazon will have twice as many. It is often necessary to use it along with a flat wrench (at least on the scoots I have done).

The motion pro tool off amazon will not work. I purchased it, the pins on the tool are too wide. Reckon a harbor freighg impact gun will work?

A few seconds on a grinder does the trick. Slim them down.....or if not gainfully employed...use a hand file while singing work songs.

I ended up ordering a cheap Chinese one with two different sizes.

As for the ncy variator. Are the 125s and 150s the same?

One scooter dealer told me its the same part while another told be they are both different.
