Possibly the start of a Saga. If so, I'm looking forward to it.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

I'm not sure how to interpret the comments in this thread, so far.

I know that I'm going to make some modifications, like a windscreen, possibly changing the plastic body parts to another color, maybe a different seat, add some lights, that kind of thing. It's definitely not going to stay a static thing.

In fact, I found a really fantastic thread here about adding lights to the US version headlight where the European turn signals are, and it gave me the idea to put DRLs in those slots. I found a pretty decent bulb on superbrightleds.com that is suitable for DRL use, putting out right at 400 lumens, 6000K cool white, and I think it might be just the ticket to stick in those slots. Of course, I might just add two of those little bullet-lights on the forks. I'm also thinking about adding turn signal mirrors.

The more lights, the better I'll be seeable, and the less likely I'll hear "but I didn't see him". There are all sorts of inexpensive little modifications I could make that would improve safety. I've already ordered a high-vis helmet, and what I hope to be a comfortable high-vis mesh jacket. Now all I have to do is get my Motorcycle endorsement.
I found something to put here.

Pay no attention to us trolls, we get bored sometimes  Go have fun! modify and ask questions... it's all good. Seldom does anyone start and maintain their own thread throughout the life of their bike modifications, but it's not unheard of. I think the owner of the forum does this from time to time. The mean man with the flaming wrench is just making me laugh... alot  but he is mean so there is that :D

Yeah, well... being a total newbie to the forum makes me unable to get attempts at humor from the long-time regulars. I can't speak for every other newbie, but I'm always a little afraid I'll step on some unwritten rule of forum etiquette and infuriate everyone, so I don't do humor well.

Nobody cares, we all ride scooter here, good lord it can be really merciless in other biker forums. I don't know why some only lurk but the fact is where are you going to go? If you don't make your stand here and be a newbie for a couple days where else is there good stuff to be had about this particular scooter? Heck whitenoise was a newbie and now look he's the moderator. Have some humor, no body cares. I think there is a book available for all the foreigners too... 'how to deal with Americans' 8)

We're all pretty chill. Most of us are goofs. We also try to use the emoticons to indicate intended tone. 2yous is an exception. He can be...deliberately cantankerous, obtuse, and often comes across as mean spirited. I don't generally respond to him anymore and if the forum had an ignore option, I'd use it for him. He does occasionally say something useful, but mostly just heckles. Best to just ignore him.

I have put everything I have done in one thread. You may want to source it for lights and rear brake light enhancement. Cut and paste the thread in my sig.

Thanks! That's the type of thing I'm specifically interested in. I feel like the scoot has limited light-visibility from the rear, and definitely want to do something about that.

This is what I did to add rear visibility

Honker man, I love that idea of strip lights under the fenders for night time riding. I may have to do that to ours. :-) We obviously wouldn't need them on in the daytime, but at night I have been trying to make the back as visible as possible. That is why I have quite a few red tail lights, most of which brighten up when I hit the brake. Still, while riding at night on a dark road, no one can see us until they are right up on top of us. Thus, we don't ride at night very often. These lights would really help in that situation.

I've driven it home!

Post by Ishkabibble »

Got my tag, provisional license, a lid, and borrowed a jacket, and drove the baby home!

OMG what a hell of a lot of fun that short 6.1 mile drive was! :D :D :D

First thoughts: This thing accelerates FAST. When you let off the throttle, it sort of feels like it's automatically slowing down, which eliminates my concern over having to deal with the 9mph thing at the bottom of the hill. It feels very light, almost squirrely, but not squirrely. It is just responsive, turns well, and maneuvers nicely. I really enjoyed pulling up to a stop light, next to two guys on gigantic Harleys. These guys looked like the proverbial nine mile stretch of bad road. They had grizzled gray beards, beat up leather, those little half-pot lids, and they looked scary. I was actually nervous at first. One of them glanced over, did a double take, and hollered to his pal. They both looked me up and down, nodded their heads, and the light changed. Hee hee hee!

On the down side, I will absolutely, positively have to get a windscreen. I felt like I was getting beaten to death by the wind. I could definitely tell the wind picking up over 30mph. At one stretch on a 45 road, I was toodling along at 50, and wishing I had a windscreen. I think the seat is tolerable, and falls into second place on the priority list behind the windscreen. :geek:

My wife says all the taillights and turn signals are clearly visible (she followed me in) and that she'd bet my helmet was visible from Mars. :o

Now that she's home, there are a couple of things I want to get taken care of. Fluids change, and a good cleanup.

Wow! Just freaking wow!!

Nice write up, just realize the windshield will pull some wind of your chest but still not cut the wind a lot. The frontal area of even the tall shields are just not enuf to calm it down a lot.

I have the tall windshield on both of our bikes and it not only keeps the wind off of us, but also diverts the wind rather than just blocking it. This helps to keep the mph up while making the ride comfortable.
As for the seat, there might be some for sale on ebay if you don't want to deal with delivery from Thailand, which takes a few weeks. Of course, which ever way you go, you can't try before buying. That is why I liked being able to send my particular specs to the individual in Thailand, and have them make.

Glen, Mel, thanks for the comments and advice.

I am looking at the National Cycle mid, as seen in this thread: http://hondapcx.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5538 which I feel will suit me just fine.

I'm going to hold off a bit on the seat, until I get more than 6 miles under my belt, just because.

Now if I can just figure how the hell to get this thing into reverse, so I don't have to manually pull it backwards out of the garage!

Okay, I took her out again to go to the store, and wow this thing is a blast! :D

I've decided what the first add-on is going to be. o_O

I've found a pretty good little LED light-strip here: https://www.oznium.com/thin-led-tube and I'm going to put a pair of red ones on the rear. I'm thinking I'm going to put them under the rear grab rail on either side, mostly toward the back. I'm envisioning them as running lights, and not connected to the brake circuit. I took a stock photo off the net of the '13 to show where I have in mind.
light1.png
light1.png (400.19 KiB) Viewed 5351 times
The second add on will be a set of red and amber 2" round LED marker lights, http://www.amazon.com/Qiorange-Weatherp ... ker+lights and wiring them up to where the reflectors are front and back.

After these are installed, I'm probably going to tackle the DRL inside the headlight fixture. By then, I should have a windscreen, and will take everything apart at the same time to install those two.

At least, that's the plan.

I have no idea when I'm going to do this, because If I'm riding it all the time, I don't know when I'll be able to get to it!
