Rear Wheel - Audible Clicking Noise When Spinning

Post by Sasso »

Hello there it's me the tube yankeroffererfail guy...

Back with another doosey.

Ok so ...

- Rear wheel off the ground, bike on centre stand
- Spin rear wheel forwards or backwards with hand
- Hear a medium harshness clicking noise that speeds up or slows down depending on the speed of the wheel rotation.
- Clicking noise seems to generate from "inside" the axle, final reduction crankshafty area of the bike. Though hard to ultimately pinpoint, only general area

Now, this is a relatively new sound but has been around for at least 2 months, and it falls into the "check for unusual noises" section of the maintenance book. According to the service manual anything unusual is likely related to the final reduction area.

Short of taking all that apart (by asking someone expensive to do it) I wonder if anyone here has heard clicking in the rear wheel area before and if they A) Haven't died yet or B) got it checked out and what was the cause or C) using your supreme mechanical knowledge base can tell even from just text on the internet what the problem is and is it bad

Thanks in advance for your help & humour,

Cheers

Could be an object trapped in the brake drum.
Or a duff bearing.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

How many miles are on the scoot?

Do you ride it in the wet?

Can you take a video of what you're observing so we can hear it too?

Sounds like a bearing ..swing arm bearing?? Try adding some oil on the swing arm bearing and see if the sound changes. Go from there by turning the shaft and listen for roughness and grinding sounds..

I had that problem on one of our bikes but ours are 2013 PCX 150s. I wouldn't think that the 2015 model would have the same problem.

Make sure your final drive oil is full. Take off the fill bolt and squirt the right oil into the hole until it starts to dribble out, and then replace the bolt and washer (properly torqued).
