Howdy...Potential PCX-150 owner

Post by honkerman »

Greetings folks.

Veteran scootster here. I've been riding for many years and blogging about same. Started out on a Honda Aero 50 in college, many years later got a Yamaha Vino 50, which soon got upgraded to a Kymco People 150. Had an 83 Honda Sabre for a while, while keeping the Kymco as a backup. Sold the Honda a couple years ago and am back to the Kymco as my two-wheeler of choice. I've ridden my 150 on long overland trips over much of the northeast.

For years I've been kinda taken by the looks of the PCX, and the engine displacement is exactly what I like. Over the last month, I've been to the local Honda dealer a few times, the first time for oil, the others to look at the 2013 PCX-150 that's sitting in the showroom, and on Friday I got to ride it. I wrote a review of my experience which I will link below if you want to bother reading another review of a scoot you're all familiar with. ;) The one thing I will say here is that the PCX feels like it would be great for the long distance trips I do as well as good for the longer commutes to work I have with a new job I'm starting Tuesday. It will need a taller windscreen (I've seen GIVI has a good one), and a luggage rack that will accomodate a crate (found a helpful topic on that in this forum), but it felt so planted and so comfortable, I can see it working very well for my needs.

In any event, I'm going back tomorrow to finish the credit app. If I get approved, I will have a nice black PCX and will probably be around the forums a bit. Very happy to be here.

Well, It took longer than I'd hoped, but yep, I bought it. :D

I pick her up tomorrow and the Honda dealer has a Givi screen on order in "smoke".

Very excited. Have to say, I love the insurance cost on 150cc scooters...$11.80 a month.

Welcome, and congrats on your new PCX. :)

$11.80 actually sounds steep unless you have full coverage. That said though, if you have full coverage, you got a great rate. I was shocked when I first started riding how cheap insurance was!

Indeed, I have full coverage, and the total came to $11.30 which was cheaper than what she quoted me. That's with a $250 deductible on collision.

Congratulations on your new PCX150. Enjoy many miles and years of service with it. I hope you won't be too disappointed to learn that the 2013's have a 1.6 gallon fuel tank rather than the 2.1 gallon tank on the 2015/16's. I doesn't bother me much because I'm usually ready for a little break after about 125 miles anyhow. The fuel stops allow me to get off and stretch my legs and do the usual comfort stop things as well.

We have 2 of the 2013 ones and love them. We have modified ours extensively. We have the tall Givi windscreens instead of the mid height one like you will be getting. I know that you are getting the mid height one because only those have the choice of tinted or clear. The tall one does not come in anything but clear. We bought the mid one first but found that the wind hit us in the chest and was very uncomfortable after awhile. We have custom seats, extra lights, and a 12 volt power outlet. I have also added many rear lights, including one that strobes when we hit the brakes.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Thanks all.

Mel, I love modding my scooters. I just added some LED's to mine this afternoon. I posted the link to my project on the appropriate forum, but here it is in case you want to watch the vid. http://scootinfool.blogspot.com/2015/08 ... ht_15.html
