Has anyone here removed the ignition key security cover?
Security is a non-issue for me, and I hate that big, hard square lump on the key. I'd like to grind off the lump, but am afraid someone else may flip the cover lever just to see what happens.
Looking for ideas to disable it but preferably so it is reversible, and not too ugly. I could use VHB tape and a small washer, junction box knock-out, etc. to block the lever.
Mine is a 2013.

Re: anyone remove ignition key cover?
Yes I have.
Remove the four small screws on the back of the ignition... then the front cover will come off and you can then just take that "lever plate" out,
careful as I recall there are 2 tiny springs and I think a ball bearing or two.
And of course grind that lump off the key... I did(non reversible though)

Your insurance company might have a different view?jon_l wrote:Security is a non-issue for me
Maybe worth asking them.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Compared to all the other keys, remotes, keys with built-in remotes, mini flashlight, micro knife and other stuff on my keyring, that bump is miniscule. Besides, perhaps you'll park it in a less secure area one day and might want to use it.

Too many ex-bikes to list, and, besides, who really cares what we used to own?

Re: anyone remove ignition key cover?
Re: security, I live in a place where the crimes described in the weekly paper usually usually consist of 2 DUIs and an iPhone stolen from an unlocked car overnight. I normally park in my garage, or in front of my office window.
I never tried the steering lock until this morning, after reading that on the 2015 PCX, the ignition cover is activated by the steering lock.
When we bought our house, we didn't re-key the locks, so the folks we bought from, who now live 5 blocks away probably have keys to the house.
I left the big city and city issues behind thankfully.

Most definitely a first world problem of great significance
My PCX key is probably the smallest vehicle key I own and my Golf key is much uglier.
Yes, I'm most assuredly taking the piss
