Valves Adjustment (stuck!)

Post by Safety Man »

Hello guys, I am adjusting my valves myself for the very first time. The issue I ran into is this presence of anti-temper screws on the crankcase cover (see pics). As you can see, they are perfectly round with a smooth surface. How in the world would I remove them? Did your PCXs come with these anti-temper screws? I suspect that maybe the Honda dealer installed them in order to "gain my business" in the future. Help! :|

Do you mean the black ones in the third photo? There just 8mm head screws aren't they?

Did you get the panels off with no breakage?

The first panel I took off (lower right) had two plastic pieces fall off. The other ones were fine (learned from my mistake I guess). Valve clearances were amazingly perfect (in spec). I am not planning to see them for another 15000 miles (unless I hear engine knocking or see a dramatic MPG decrease) Prior readings (done by Honda dealer) for 600 and 2500 miles were in-spec as well. I've had the bike for 11 months. It has 4850 miles now.

Soooooo. They would have been OK until 15,000 miles.....

Only two broken clips - well done, that's four less than some dealers :P

Safety Man, I have a lot of respect for your effort. Good to know your engine valves are holding to spec. If you ever trade in on a newer PCX you will find this whole business a lot easier I think. I see things coming off yours like center panel that no longer needs to be removed to get to valve adjustments.... good job!
