CamelBak

Post by Monty1952 »

Thinking of some trips I am going to take this year and hydration. Is CamelBak (or another brand) the way to go? Or do the more experienced riders here do something else?

I have found a hydration pack to be a life saver. I forget to drink when I ride, only remembering when I am dehydrated. I find with the pack, it is easy to take a few sips while on the road such as at a stoplight. Sometimes I will just keep the nipple in my mouth and sip as I ride. As for a hydration pack I have had the best performance with the ones made in Israel with the glass like liner. Water that has sat in them is fresh even after a couple of months provided it is kept out of direct sunlight.

Wow - I don't ever travel that far on the scooter (at least not yet) but I thought I was doing well throwing a bottle of water under the seat. o_O

Did a 460km ride last September. It was amazing. This year I am planning a 1800km trip over 6 days. Little hammock camping as I head to the interior BC to see my daughter.

I just take a break every two hours to eat and drink when on a long trip. Motorcycling on the road is not like bicycling where I sip a carb mix every few minutes. Super hot weather or off road riding might need more hydration.

I live near Anheuser Busch headquarters and brewery off of route 66 - its expected. They even give out free beer and Clydesdale rides. (seriously, i think some of the Harley riders south of me leave some of the local establishments a bit tipsy at times. It scares the socks off of me)

My Husband bought an Evo hammock. it is really comfortable. Never camped in it yet. Only napped in it in the back yard. Got me interested and found models on line with netting for the bugs. :D

AMA Vintage days is a blast. Anyone in the eastern USA that likes to tent camp should check out this family friendly event.

1000's of bikes being ridden around the large campground by young and old alike and everything has a price. Some people show up on Thursday, buy an old trail bike for $200, ride around all weekend, and sell it on Sunday before leaving.
The theme three years ago was "Rockers vs Mods". They had some good speakers telling us about the 50's and 60's in bike culture England. The bike show was won by a perfect condition Gold on Black vintage Vincent that I didn't get a good photo of but those bikes were a work of art.

Will be in touch, route 66 in April or September this year. Have started the planning. May split it in half and do in two trips as I think it really is a month to do it justice which I don't think I have.

Vintage Days is a nice event. Real people that love to work on and ride motorcycles. None of the tough guy posturing of cruiser events. None of the supersport squids riding wheelies in and out of traffic at 100mph.

@steph Hennessy Hammocks makes a few different models, but most important, very compact and strong. With bug netting.
