How wet is too wet?

Post by fish »

While riding home today in the first BIG rain for my Forza I remebered the text in the service manual that states that "the air cleaner requires more frequent inspections if the scooter is used in unusually wet areas".

What constitutes "unusually wet"?
And, how does the air filter get wet on a Forza?

Before purchasing my Kymco as a daily work commute vehicle I queried the owners who ride these very popular scooters in the far& very wet Pacific regions. I need this scoot to work in all kinds of weather - because I will not be parking it just because rain is expected. I contacted some very active Kymco clubs in the Philippines with this in mind.
A respected poster told me that his Kymco performs just fine as his commuter vehicle through some 23 typhoons each year!

So, how does the Forza do in the very wet?

Also, I've heard that some owners dry their scoots off after a rain ride by using a leaf blower. I'd be concerned that I might be blowing water into places I don't want water to go. Yes?
Is a towel better?

Awsome. :D
Don't worry about wet. If you are just check air filter and replace it eventually.

As far as the title goes; the wetter the better.

As far as rain and scoots, you should be fine. You probably get water in more places when you wash it than you would riding in a rain storm.

As for blow drying your scooter to dry it after washing it, the motorcycle shop we use dries the bikes they wash by using an air chuck. As long as you don't blow into the bearings in the wheels you will be fine.

I use a gas leaf blower to dry the scooter after every wash, as I live in the country and if I don't dry it I get lots of water spots.

Why the heck didn't I think of that. Of course even on my car and truck oO. I don't use gas anymore but the darn electric blower is just hanging on the wall ... DA!

I do a simple towel dry after a ride in the rain or after a wash.

As to the original question of wet in regards to the air filter - I think Honda means areas of very high humidity. Although if you ride a lot through puddles then that should be considered also.
