Advice please on purchase and warranty- 2013 PCX 150

Post by Jarec »

Hi, I'm new to the board and want to buy a PCX 150.

A local dealer will sell me a 2013 PCX 150 with seven miles on it for $2,500. I put four of those miles on it with a test ride. It had been won on a game show!

Questions:
--Is $2,500 a good price?
--Should I buy an extended warranty for $200 for one year?
--Any other advice?

Many thanks for your help. John

That's a grand off what I paid for the 150 last year when it was a new 2013 model... sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

I almost bought a Volvo station wagon that had been won in a raffle. Took it from the dealer to my mechanic, and he told me not to buy it because it had a lot of wear for the low mileage, being driven from one raffle location to another. I trusted him and passed on it. But 3 miles before you touched it is nothing.

Thanks, dustin91. What do you think of buying a warranty? Apparently the original warranty expires 8/14/2014. I know Hondas have a great reputation, but I'm thinking it may be worth $200 for the peace of mind the warranty would give.

Buy it, but I would skip the warranty.

Thanks for your advice. Care to say more on why you suggest that?

$2500 is a great price for 7 miles.
It's a "Honda" warranty not needed
$200 is pretty cheap for peace of mind though ;)

Yeah. And there's the possibility of a lemon even with a Honda. Thanks! again.

It is interesting that we have two PCX 150s with about 10,000 miles difference between them. The first one had no problems until it got close to that mileage. The second one has less the 2,000 miles on it and no problems yet. We bought the extended warranty on the first one but not the second one. The first one is in the shop with clutch problems right now. Thank goodness for the extended warranty. So I would say that it is up to you as to whether you believe in the product enough to not get the extended warranty, but I would, especially since the factory warranty is about to expire.

That's very helpful, Mel46. Did you get more than one year extended? What are your thoughts on that?

I'm thinking that many problems would show up in the first year, so a reasonable compromise might be to buy a one year warranty.

Thanks very much. John

Bought the scooter today. Decided on getting the extended warranty. Two years was just $50 more than one year so got that. Rode it home from the dealer, about 55 miles. Happy and impressed with the handling. I felt uncomfortable much over 55 because of wind buffeting. Good bike for the back roads near my home.

Thanks for helping me with my decision. :D

Welcome! and have fun with yer new toy. :P I'm in agreement with you about the buffeting winds at speeds 55+. A fitted and proper windscreen for you may help. Several are available for your year PCX and much talk has been shared here. Hang around, read, ask, even run a search on the forum about windscreens. There's a lot. ;)

Thanks for your warm welcome, Whitenoise!

I'll think about that windscreen. Most of the time I don't expect to drive fast enough to need one...
