Post by kcvineamy »

I have just bought a new pcx and am currently searching for insurance.....however, I am finding it difficult to find out exactly what security devices come on the bike as standard, Please could somebody enlighten me?
Thanks in advance.

400+£ !!! I'm sorry but this seems huge. You have an expensive country.

If it is your first bike, depending on where you live, that is what you will pay, roughly. i am 31, 5 years NCB on the car, but I am paying about £350. Security won't bring it down that much, I am afraid. PCX does not come with alarm. You can lock the steering.

In Thailand (and maybe some other counties, Brazil?), it does have an alarm by default.

I have learned from my mistakes, and I am sure I can repeat them exactly.

For the US: Locking forks. That is it.

I did mention I have a disc lock, That got me a discount (very small) And the scooter has a key guard that only opens with the key. They didn't care, no discount on any of the companies I called.

BTW the special key lock is just a magnet, which pulls forward allowing you to turn the lock. Pretty slick, as long as the thief doesn't know about the locking system. Then again, security is just layers of deterrence to buy time.

The biggest problem though is weight. 2 guys can drive up in a van and just lift it off the ground and chuck it in the back. I recommend a locking cover. This could be the best deterrence, so I have read.

True, but the OP os UK so was coming from that angle. Why it doesn't have an alarm in the UK I will never understand.

Check with the insurance company as some have a list of approved locks and chains. They might give a slight discount if you have one. The chain might be a bit more expensive though so the saving could be cancelled out.
