Centerstand Bosses Revisited

OK....just got through comparing the Lugs cast on the Engine Cases of my PCX150 and my Wife's previously owned PCX125. There is definitely more material now cast on the 150 than the 125 where the Center Stand mounts. There are two extra square Lugs cast to the Fronts of the round Lugs originally used on the 125s. 99% of the time, I have a camera with me...today is a 1% day....ARRRRRRRRRGH. Maybe some of You can post some 125 and 150 Lug Pics today in this Thread for comparison today.....!!!!!

I'm definitely interested in pics of this. Do the lugs look like they could be added after production, or are they welded or cast on?

They're cast into the Engine Case.....picture the Round Lugs there now, then add a square box with the center partially milled out, to the front of Them...!!!

Mitzie's PCX125 Lugs look just like gn2's Pics in the "How To" Thread about greasing the Center Stand Pivot Bolt.... ;)

OK, a Customer just came to my Shop and I borrowed Their camera....the PCX125 has left, but here is a Pic of what my PCX150 has cast on that Our PCX125's didn't have. Not sure if Anyone else's 125s have these or not, but Ours didn't apparently. Here is the "Extra Boss" that's on both sides of my PCX150, missing from Mitzie's previous PCX125.....

Yep, that's what's missing on my Wife's 125.....I took that with a really bad cell phone camera, and will try to take better ones with my good camera later. That Area represents some really major extra "beefing up" of the engine case. Apparently Honda became aware of an issue and fixed it......These basically represent heavy duty "gussets" attached to the Mounting Lugs...there are also two extra "meaty" ribs cast forward of these too. The 125 had the "ribs", but thinner, shorter, smaller.....I feel better about my 150, but not so well for the 125 owners now..... :cry:

Luckily, it's a minor thing since the PCX has a kickstand too.

Yep...I hope Owners catch this issue before They get a cracked/leaking Engine Case. A Person could heli-arc some extra aluminum ribs there provided the case walls are thick enough in that area to not flex and move a crack elsewhere. Honda added a really substantial amount of material, so They HAD TO KNOW there has been some issues...... 8)

Hi first time post. I'm loving my PCX and have just noticed this thread. I have the 125 ESP version and this does have the extra part as highlighted. If this has been changed due to a design fault then Honda must be responsible in some way? I'm in the Uk hope this helps!

I was wondering about this.....why I posted for Folks to post Their PCX125 Pics....THANKS Spicemelange......I know mine and my Wife's PCX125s were really early models (mine was the first one sold in Tennessee, USA)...wondering if any later production models of the USA PCX125 had the upgraded cases.....Look under those Scooters Folks.....!!!!!... ;) 8)

Could one go to the weld shop and weld a small piece of aluminium to the exact spot to match that of esp engines? Something in shape of a nut? That would add bit strength to the hinge mount..

Here's a pic of the offending item.
The thing had previously split at the front as shown by the fact that the break is dirty.
The two cleaner looking breaks are the rear of the boss and the little stub that the pivot pin locates on.
Also, there is a metal bush pressed into the casing.
Wouldn't surprise me if this bush was just a little bit too big.

Mine doesn't have it either & mine was made in December 2011. That's about as late a model you can get, since we saw no 125s in 2012. Probably safe to say no U.S. 125s have it?

The problem with a steel bush in an alloy casing is corrosion can build up between them causing the effect of the alloy basically rotting away or weakening it. They fit sacrificial anodes to ships and sometimes to the spring seats of car suspension systems to stop corrosion of the steel parts . http://chemwiki.ucdavis.edu/Analytical_ ... cial_Anode
I have seen steel bolts seized solid that are fitted into alloy housings so bad that they cannot be hammered out and have to be cut out.
The key is to keep everything well lubricated to stop galvanic corrosion between the differing metals
Or it could be the casing is just not man enough.
