Oil leak, or normal?

Post by loudgonzo »

This is with almost 3000 miles on the bike, has only had the 600 mile service done to it. Is this normal?

Mine's the same.
Could be that the drain tube is full and overflowing from further up?
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

1 more thing, it's been a while since I installed a givi e370 topbox. But how do you take this connector off? Does it pry off, or is it locked in somehow?
this picture shows the same type connector, and I just don't want to break or damage it.

anyone have the solution for taking the connector off? does it just need to be pried off?

You don't need to remove it to service it. Perhaps get the base off but just leave it hanging so you can remove the fairings (if you're doing the valves).

Why would you want to remove it?
If you just want to remove the GIVI top box, just put the cap on connector provided by GIVI when you purchase the box.
If you want to remove the base you need to unscrew the flat plastic floor first, then remove it to expose four
bolt in base frame and then after you remove that bolt you then have access to GIVI bracket bolt.
You also need to disconnect the cable from GIVI to the tail light cable that can only be accessed when you remove
the tail grab plastic pannel.

If you insist to remove the connector you can access it from the under side of base frame. You need to remove the
connector lid first using small flat screw driver, then unscrew the cable terminal to remove the cable,
then you can remove the connector upper side.

Too me it look like you gearing oil is coming out somewhere around there, its def not an engine oil. Engine oil will get sucked thru the air filter before it come out of that clear tube at the back of airbox.

My advise is spray some degreaser on there and hose it down, then try to see where its coming from exactly..Hope this helps. :geek:

Thats never normal, 15000 miles and ive not got this. If you breather pipe is full then goo will leak out the bottom of the airbox (theres a little hole) but then tends to run down the front of the casing, seen that on several of the pcx at work. Thinking final oil is leaking...

Take it back to the dealer anyways before it becomes a problem...

Clear tube with a crimped end off the back of the airbox . It get full of stray oil and like condensation, it fills up real fast when it's cold out. It mentions in the manual to clean it out when if fills. Most of the pcx I see have it full and goo leaking out the bottom of the airbox where it's overflowed.

I have similar goo around there on my bike, but it's from the road, not from leaking gear oil. I recommend you check your oil and gear oil levels just in case.
