New webhost

Hey everyone -

The old host for this site was frustrating to migrate from, and jacked up hosting rates to over $100/mo. We lost around 2 months of data during the migration. Put simply, the hosting expired, they kept the site active, but denied me access to data, resulting in the site coming back online as a time capsule from 2023 Halloween times right before Christmas.

It's frustrating - but at least we're back online.

We're on our new host and everything seems well. If you're logging in the night of December 20 2023, we still have SSL issues giving certificate errors, those will resolve soon. Thanks for your patience, and thanks for your bravery hitting "accept" and going past that error. I'll get it fixed soon.


If this downtime and the data loss is a big issue to you, I'm always open to ideas for better supporting this site. This is one of the few corners of the internet remaining where that's not needed here - hondapcx.org is still ad-free, and I'll keep it that way as long as I can, even if it means the site's less financially solvent.

Thanks Dave for hanging in there and getting er done. I don't speak for everyone ,but if you chose relevant/helpful ads,
I think some of us would be OK with that. Might defray some or all the costs. I know things have slowed down lately....
partly seasonal......fewer ride year round. If it's in the 40's [F] and not too windy, I'm out there. Even with the slow down,
an old thead revived and solved my PCX issue. Thankful for that and many helpful contributions from many members.

Glad it is back. $100 is way to much a month. Seems could host this for $10 a month. Not enough traffic for you to paying $100.
I would totally be ok with ads.

Wow, thanks Dave for making this site come alive again. As said above it was such a downer to seem to be lost. What a nice Christmas present for me and the rest of us. I'll donate to the effort to say a small 'thanks'

It looks like everything has stabilized well and the new host is performing as expected. Traffic is still a bit down, but it'll recover.

Thank you all for your words of encouragement in this thread.

I still haven't decided on ads or no ads yet - honestly, I got the site online right before heading cross country for the holidays, then I got home and work's been very demanding since, so I haven't thought about it at all. I've also considered PCX Forum swag, but that's probably a bad idea. I can't run afoul of copyright law with Honda, so it may be best to keep things ad-free, and barely scraping by. I'll make a decision soon, but my gut is leaning towards no ads and keeping us with the cheapest hosting possible.

Aaaand we're back again after 3 days of downtime.

Someone was trying to run an exploit against the forum software and we got blocked by the hosting company. I updated the forum software and changed some settings.

I also fixed an issue that the forum had preventing new users from registering... I didn't realize that was an issue until someone emailed me directly (Thanks Jim!). I won't go into details, but it's good to go now.

Yay! I have been trying to get an activation email since the site came back online. I sent multiple emails (or attempted to?) through the forum’s email, asking for help. I have some things I will post when the mood strikes. Thanks for making this site possible and getting it working again for new members too. I had a Honda Ruckus for 4 years and bought a 2022 USA PCX in November.

I need to update the site email. Google switched the account to a business account since I used them as a registrar and locked me out of it, locking it behind a $144/year paywall. I'll do that soon.
