1000 miles on a pcx in 24hr

Post by Mon-Eye »

So I've done a few interesting trips and rides over the years. I've decided I want to try and do 1000 miles in a day on my pcx. Yes 24 hours start to finish. Predominantly without using motorways and sticking to A & B roads. The rough planned route is to leave Durham going via Jedburgh to Fallkirk. Then up A9 to John o groats. Then on return leg back to fort William, lake district, Hawes and home to Durham. Route is currently 1028 miles and is doable in 22 hours.

Would anyone else like to join in on the venture and has anyone ever attempted such a ride on a pcx before

Once did 900 miles on a Honda 550, much younger then though. Not sure it's doable.

I could do it easily on my blackbird or 600 but like the idea the pcx would be a challenge and more license friendly too

I did a 1,032 mile ride in 23 hrs 8 minutes last fall on my 2019 PCX. Got the ride certified by the Iron Butt Association and earned the Scooter 1000 Gold (the patch I got from the IBA is my profile picture). My time included stopping for 40 minutes to help a lady change a tire on her minivan. I had a good time doing the ride and didn't find it to be overly difficult. I was wide open throttle for most of the ride so I only got 68-70 mpg; make sure to account for this in your planning. This is the route I took (Idaho, Oregon and Washington states in the US):

I am thinking about attempting a Scooter Bun Burner Insanity this summer. This consists of 1,500 miles in 36 hours on a scooter of less than 300 ccs. I would go for the ride if I were you...what do you have to lose :D

Cheers

Ah sweet. I didn't know their was an organisation that did patches and certs for them. I'm definatly going to do it. Glad a fellow scooterist has dont it already too. Did you do any warm up stints on the saddle before hand or just head off on it ? Its something I've wanted to do since I got the scooter last April

It sounds like you're in the UK. The IBA has a UK branch that seems to be pretty active.

https://ironbutt.co.uk

The main site in the US has an enormous list of rides all over the world that can be certified.

Good luck with your long-distance riding endeavors!

I did 500 miles in a day (10 am to 7 pm), just a leisurely ride on back roads, so I know that 1000 miles could be done. My wife had a PCX as well, so we just decided to go on a ride to 'touch' 5 States in one day, which we did. We stopped to eat, refuel, and just sightsee before heading home again. One suggestion: Buy a gel seat cushion and strap it on the bike seat. You will be very comfortable on your ride. Here is a picture of my bike. Note the added gel seat on top of my custom made seat. (I also changed my shocks and have Michelin City Grip tires.) :D

+1 on the seat pad.

I have an imitation AirHawk pad that I got off Amazon. I use it on my scooters and motorcycles and it works great!

Ah cool. Mine came with factory fitted Michelin City grip tires on as standard. I've used sheep skins for long haul rides before on my seats but never a gell seat. The pcx seat feels like a comfy couch compared to my sports bikes already lol. I'm finalising the round now then going to attempt it the end off the month. One debate I'm having with the old man is what time to start the 24 hour trip. I think late on to get the night ride out the way first however he thinks start early doors around 3 or 4 am.

It comes with a little water pump but I have never used water in the pad. The little air pump is pretty much worthless as well so I just blow it up by mouth...works great!

Hope you like it
