New to me 2018 PCX 150 with 16,900 miles

Post by zorrobyte »

Howdy all!

I just bought a 2018 PCX 150 with 16,000 miles. I'm going to overhaul/upgrade the cycle. I weigh 260 pounds and I was looking for a complete CVT swap.

I'm considering buying "PCX 150 Trans Kit" and buying a new belt.

This seems to be the same kit as
https://ncystore.com/ncy-cvt-kit-honda-pcx

I saw on one page "Stock weight is 15gram. A drop to 12 or 13 depending on weight of rider, over 200 go with 12gram." I would like higher speed. I don't care too much about insanely high acceleration, right now it's plenty fast off the line.

What all should I buy? I also saw, "I went with the NCY full variator kit 13g rollers drive face and variator and the GIVI short windscreen. My 2015 Honda PCX150 went from hitting the revlimiter at 62mph to a top speed of 75mph all GPS readings. It now hits the revlimiter at 75mph."

Should I go with 12g or 13g rollers? Sliders? What's a good setup for a new rider?

I am also considering a new exhaust eventually, and maybe shock upgrade.

Thanks :D

I would edit the post, but the Edit button is now gone.

I found this video: It seems that the kit and a belt should be all I need!

Go to the 13, 12 is going to get you more acceleration and less top end. 13 seems to be the sweet spot for the 150s.

Before you spend all of that money I would suggest that you read this:

Honda has been changing the gearing every time a new version of the PCX has been introduced, which increases fuel efficiency but affects top end and the ability to improve that top end.

I have a 2013 model which turns out to be the fastest model as well as the easiest to upgrade. Those with a 2018 version are lucky that the engine is still 153cc. After that year I believe that the engine size went down to 149cc's.

The bottom line that you may have to consider changing the gearing. There have been multiple discussions on that on this forum.

I would recommend just upgrading the Variator/Driveface and weights to start. Maybe new belt..

I would suggest 11/12g weights... I run 10.5g sliders and still manage over 75mph top speed. Rider weight doesnt effect things as much as people think.

Thank you for the tips! I'll likely just do the Variator/Driveface, weights, and belt in this case. How many miles is a clutch known to last for, or does it all just come down to needing to inspect it?

I did notice that they added a tooth to the 2018, then another on the 2019. I don't think I'd go that far and if I end up wanting to ride on the highway/interstate often, I'll get a bigger bike, like a 300.

My use case is bumbling around town and sometimes up to 55 MPH stretches, I'd like the 70-75MPH option to keep up with traffic now and then, and I'm unsure as to the maintenance that has been performed so if I'm digging into it, might as well go ahead and change it over for a few extra MPH.

Are sliders worth it over rollers? I read that sliders don't work with the NCY variator; could be wrong.
