What is this screw sticking out from speed sensor protector?

Post by raito »

I was changing the oils, then I noticed this screw. It is stuck. It seems, in order to remove VS sensor protector, I need to at least remove air cleaner housing, luggage box, body cover, grab rail and cover. I also need thread locker when reinstalling the VS sensor socket bolts.

Is it okay to just leave it alone until some other time? Or not?

Thanks

It wouldn’t be OK to leave it alone on my bike, I’d take it apart and fix it.

I don’t think it’s anything more than a fastener. I do not have my shop manual with me at present, but for the services you were talking about, you should not need to touch it. I know I never have

Paul, take look closer. Just above the 2 hex bolts there's a black screw popping out at us. That is Not Normal and needs attention. I would have that removed as soon as you're able. Funny how that got lodged in that space...weird.
Is there any movement At All? Will it Slide sideways either way? Perhaps you can get it to lie on it's side and then Patiently (with unusual tools, tweezer etc, you get the idea) weedle it out?
Maybe tap it lightly to unsnag it? I see a bigger gap to the left of the screw, maybe take advantage of that space if-if-if you can move it  Shame to remove parts for a measly screw, but if you must, you must.

Ya just gotta be there to fiddle. Itsa first for sure! Good luck!

I wouldn't want to tear my skin up because I forgot that thingy was waiting for me. Ouch! We all have accidents but why invite one?
Try a vise grip too. Get the toolbox and grab the kitchen junk drawer - Try everything!!

Sigh...If it's gotta stay, cut/snip it back as far as you can. Flat head better than point.

I can wiggle it sideways a bit but the head is bigger than the space it can't escape.. Some good advice everyone, thanks.

Maybe grab it tight with a vice grip and pivot it vertical, the head should pop out on the bottom.

Thread a nice Chinese bling accessory on it. Something reflective to increase your safety.
('Safe' it by screwing an olive pit on it. ( few ever been eviscerated by an olive)
BTW - that's a handsome scooter. Can we get a picture of it?

This is old, but the screw is now out. I was at the dealership to finally change the drive belt (at 34671km!) and some bearing, when I pointed it out to my experienced mechanic. He straight away recognised it was a screw from my topbox plate. He just undid the nearby bolt and the screw was free.. I can now sleep peacefully.

So it was stuck there for a year and a half? I admire your patience. Glad you can sleep well now..
