Need to get out riding again when seeing these pictures!
Although just been diagnosed with, and i'm using a translator for this - inguinal hernia - which is causing a lot pain for the past 2 months but didn't want to consult my Dr. because of this pandemic raging (Mrs. or Mr Covid is not welcome in my house).
Better stay home and 'safe' even with a lot of pain because of my intestines apparently coming out where they should not be... Maybe my low-side adventure a while ago has something to do with this...

Next time I'll ride I'll take some pictures of the harbour which is basically my backyard (I see these relatively 'huge' container vessels pass by everyday from my bedroom :p)

Impression of one of these ships passing by everyday:
Do get the hernia fixed at your next opportunity. I can understand your concerns about the COVID 19 risk being in a hospital. But don't delay any longer than you feel is prudent.

You have a National Healthcare System right? So the surgery would be paid for?

I was born with one of those and they took care of it before I left the hospital. Never had a problem with it . . ..

Another type of hernia that is more common is an umbilical hernia. Depending upon the situation you can live with it but your belly button sticks out like a mushroom cap (just the cap . . . no stem    ).

Sorry, couldn't help myself . . ..

It's painful if you cough or lift something right? Just take it easy for now and see what your Doctor says' on your next visit.

Looking forward to the pics of the harbor in your area when you are "up to it".

10th of July is surgery day, went to see a specialist - so 3 more weeks of pain, 3 to 4 weeks recovery from the surgery.
And yes, personally I think our healthcare system is great and I have an additional insurance so even all the medication up to 1 year after the surgery is being paid for. But as you might have seen/heard on the news Belgium has not been tackling this covid thing really well it seems, at least when you look at the statistics worldwide (excess death / x number of inhabitants). After visiting the specialist at the hospital I am even more convinced it was a good thing to delay all of this because of Covid. Too many people in the hospital;not keeping distance, some walking around without face mask, people coughing... glad I only had to spend 1 hour there for the consultation.

And yes coughing, sneezing, lifting something, sitting , standing, ... everything except lying down hurts.

Next ride planned (if I have a good day) -> this Sunday - only a short ride as the suspension on my pcx is not that great (still stock) and each bump or hole in the road is shaking my guts (never paid attention to the suspension before until now - it is as they say: you don't know what you've got until you lose it); not fun to ride that way but I just want to be out there again. I'll post some pictures!

Good luck with your surgery.

On our side of the pond we've got similar problems with people throwing caution to the wind and living in ignorance. The news highlighted recently that someone had argued with a crew member on an airliner (before they took off) that it was their "right" not to have to wear a mask. He was refused passage. Later they dealt with the situation. Rules moving forward are established with more clarity.

That said, holy cow . . . what a moron.

Well we are having a slowdown in the excavation side of things. Permits are slow coming, investors pulling out of jobs. I guess people are getting scared of the economy.

No work again so just got out for a ride.

Life was good then!

You are not alone though . . . tons of people out of work.

Bizarre times these are.

I feel especially sorry for the small business start ups who've been gathering receipts like droplets of water after a trek in the desert and now this.

I've gone through several job lay offs due to "right sizing" over the years and have learned to live more simply after nearly losing my house and seeing interest rates on on credit jump from 7% to 29% almost overnight.

Thanks for the pic.

Here's another from my ride yesterday on my KLR.

Old Grinner, nice pictures in this and your other post. There is something about 2 wheel therapy that reached the soul. Wind in my hair, bugs in my teeth, what more could I want? :D

I was thinking about the early 80’s
I was just a kid, my Dad sold cars, it was bad. Just no money out there.

Don’t remember that much, but I do remember Dad and I used to argue over food.
He would come home from work, grouchy no sales, he would ask where is something like
the cookies, I’d smile “urp” and say I was hungry. He would get so mad. We argued over food like little children.

I had my priorities back then!

There surely is much to be said for living simple.

Went for a jaunt to Crofton and Mill Bay. Came across this old cemetery.

I like cemetery’s for some reason.

Probably because the residents are peaceable with one another.

In the really old cemeteries the "sandstone" gravestones can be tough to read but interesting. Sadly over time they tend to deteriorate.

Whoever heard of the "Milk Sickness"?

But it was a common cause of death to early immigrants due to ingesting milk or meat from cows that fed on a poisonous plant.

The original site of Yale University is surrounded by a cemetery (Cypress Cemetery). You can see the top of a grave monument just over the hedges.

Here's a link describing the Cypress Cemetery. A lot of history dating from the 17th century. https://ctcemeteryassociation.org/index.php/news/

As I said earlier - got a chance to ride today as I had a good day - hooraay. Lots of wind and a bit of rain though but that can't hold me back. Some pictures of what is basically my backyard - highly industrial so not as picturesque as other pictures here  .

That's the big boat I talked earlier about which I can see passing from my bedroom as it towers above all the houses - the 40 something ft. containers do look tiny in comparison.

Yes I'm on a boat - two ferries cross the port (there are two bridges as well some km's down and up the road but why not have a boat ride for free!).

Thanks for sharing those pics!

Riding on ferry boats is always a mix of the enjoyment of the view and the concern that when it docks at the destination it will be a soft landing and the bike/scooter won't topple over.

Sometimes I just stay seated on the bike with my front wheel close to a bulkhead and my kickstand down while i keep the front break lever engaged just as the Captain throws the propeller into reverse nearing the dock.

Here's a couple of pics of the ferry crossing the Connecticut River near Gillette's Castle.

Those are amazing pictures!!! And yes totally right about docking and toppling :). As long as its on the open waters you can leave it on the side stand and walk around a bit. But when it starts to dock I get back on the saddle, side stand still there and engaging front brake - it gets wobbly at times (depending on the captain's mood and weather conditions:) ).

The castle looks old, but when I looked it up on wikipedia; I assume it was built around 1910. Probably it was just the way it was designed - as in, to make it look old :). Google maps also show plenty of marinas around the area, must be fun to have a boat there. My brother has a small fishing boat but before we get to any place "non-industrial" we have to do around ~15 to 20kms...

The castle was built for William Gillette. He was a famous actor in days of yore who portrayed Sherlock Holmes. A lost film clip was recently discovered . . ..

https://www.chicagotribune.com/entertai ... olumn.html

He even had a small scale railroad that went around the grounds and along the banks of the river. It was previously removed and reconstructed at a place called Lake Compounce Amusement Park.

The state has owned the Gillette's Castle property for many years. The Amusement Park owners decided to return the train to the state after many years of use but retain one of the original engines for display at Lake Compounce. Improvements have been made to Gillette's Castle grounds and there is a small museum there now in addition to the original castle.

A newspaper article about the return of the train to state ownership.

https://www.courant.com/news/connecticu ... story.html

A couple of pictures I took inside the museum back in 2015.

@2 Fast 4 U: Taken at North Sea Port - formerly known as Port of Ghent, taken on the west side of the port (I live in Zelzate).

@Old Grinner: wondering if the front suspension on that Neracar actually helped - rear suspension seams to be identical however  .

Not a boring pic . . ..

Looks like you spent your money in the right direction with the top box, windscreen, and seat. As they say put your money where it's going to do the most good! :D

I usually keep some "S100" around to help get into "hard to reach" areas when I wash my scoots or bikes. You just have to make sure you follow the instructions and dry the machine off good after to avoid spotting. Best to avoid using it in direct sunlight also.

Other than that I've had good success with Armor All or Meguiar's Deep Crystal car wash products.
