Seat - stay brown or go black?

Post by Peter Panini »

I've got the 2013 PCX150 with the rather rubbish seat, but since I lease it from my boss I'm not going to go overboard on upgrades and repairs.

However I will need to get the seat recovered soon - currently it's brown.

Would you recommend keeping it brown, or going black?

if you lease the vehicle...then let the owner pay for a new seat if its required....otherwise I would leave as is ....not for you to spend cash money on someone else's vehicle ?

My boss is tighter than .... we'll leave it there. He won't pay for any repairs on the bike (except for the new fuel pump and battery, which caused great resentment).

I've replaced a couple of bits and bobs, and a rear tyre (which he won't pay for) and had the exhaust repaired - all at minimal cost.

If you look in the pic you can see the vinyl is starting to tear at the right bottom edge (and is getting progressively worse day by day). Re-covering it will cost $10 here in Vietnam.

So - stay brown or go black?

A "Darker" brown than what we see now. If not, go black.

Will do so WN. Please reciprocate by pointing in the right direction to posting pictures correctly. I managed it once but I'm IT-special.

Cheers!

You lease a 2013 model?? The 2020 models are out. You could probably buy a 2013 model over there for next to nothing. Here in the United States a fully upgraded and pampered 2013 model, like mine, would probably sell for $2,000. I bet that you could cut that in half over there, plus that particular one looks like it has not been pampered. If there is a scooter store over there, check pricing on used ones. You may be surprised.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

I know, it's ridiculous. It's because of my financial liquidity at the moment.

A brand spanking 2019 model, made in Vietnam retails at $2100. I lease mine for $85/month.

Put your seat money towards your own bike.

$85 × 12 = $1,020... one year of renting just bought you a used scooter in good condition.

Soon as I have saved $1020 I'm throwing the key back at the boss, and buying me just that.

And this 2012 model (a bit old) can be had for on or about said price.

You know what the advantage of that older scooter will be? It will be yours! You won't have to support or upgrade something that does not belong to you.

My wife and I are seeing the advantages of owning our own house now, in the same way you will see ownership in your own scooter. Even if it breaks, the money and time put into fixing it is for the future as well as the present...because it is yours.

May 15th is closing day. On the 16th we are having a fence built, and on the 18th my wife and I will be doing our best to pack up and move the basement and storage area by ourselves. That will be a test of endurance, but thanks to the virus we can't get any other help right now. (A wonderful thing to do when you are 73 and have had 12 back surgeries, plus leukemia). We will be moving almost an hour away from where we are now.. and going from a 2,000 square foot house to a 1300 square foot house. Oh joy.

Still exciting though. Good luck.

Send some basement or garage photos when you can :D
