What tools are NEEDED???

Post by dgnyberg »

After "losing" the majority of my tools, I am trying to figure out a good list of the tools I NEED
for my 2013 PCX 150. I know the basics, but I am planning a PCX Tool Box, so I only want to
include the tools that are used on the PCX.

I plan to include a cordless Impact Driver, 4-way screw driver and a motorcycle multitool with
10, 12 and 13mm sockets and a selection of allen keys.

What else would be good to include. Yes, it will probably also be my "Go-Bag" to keep on the scooter.

Thanks for the help!!!

I don't know all of the tools that you would want to carry with you but I have found that my portable electric drill with a 3/8 socket adapter made taking things apart quicker and easier. I have a small metric socket container with all of the normal sizes as well. I can attach one of the sockets to the adapter and unscrew a bolt in seconds. That little adapter has saved me many, many hours of manual labor...and it was very inexpensive.

Hey, Mel. Thanks for the response!!

I'm looking at the Ryobi Battery impact. It has 1,600 in-lbs of torque. That should take care of just about anything.
I'm just trying to figure out the tools I'll NEED without carrying a bunch of extras.
Like what are all the socket sizes on the PCX.
I don't want to carry a complete set of sockets.
Those, the impact, a stubby ratchet, combo wrenches to match the sockets and a couple different sizes of screwdrivers.

So, I guess my REAL question is. . . .

Which sockets do I NEED including for the clutch and variator.

I will have to do an inventory to see what tools I have used on my bike in the past. I have only had one occasion where I had to tear down and fix my bike on the road, but I was lucky because I thought it possible that it might give me problems. If your belt goes while you are riding you are going to have a real mess inside the variator area, and it won't be a 5 minute job changing the belt. Still, it can be done on the road. It would be better, though, to change the belt according to time frame Honda set up, and not worry about it.

Impact wrench . . ..

The variator nut still a 22mm?

The clutch cover nut still 19mm?

So 22mm socket for the impact wrench to remove the variator nut. . ..

And a 19mm socket for the outer clutch cover . . ..

Don’t forget to include a motorcycle ramp.

Thanks for all the replies!! From what I can see, a basic socket set and the two Impact sockets should do me just fine.

You You, what would be a fairly inexpensive motorcycle ramp? I've looked at a lift, but that's just too much for occasional usage.
I guess I'll look around.

Definitely changing the belt as scheduled is my plan. I'm looking at a "just in case" scenario for longer rides.
I don't want to be a few hundred miles from home and not be able to get back because of a belt issue.
Maybe I'm being a little paranoid, but I think it's better to be prepared.

Thanks!!

My wife and I rode hundreds of miles in one day with no problems, but if either had broken down we had roadside service and a cellphone. Still, if you keep up with maintenance and keep some basic tools onboarding, you should be fine. I keep two different size adjustable wrenches among my tools because some bolts from accessories can vibrate loose over time, like my mirror extenders (mainly because I have to move my mirrors inward to bring the bikes into my basement, then out again after bringing them to my driveway.)
