Cold January Waterfront Ride

Post by Old Grinner »

A bit of a nip in the frosty air today.

T'was 25 F. when I set out on the Zuma for a local adventure . . ..

I know . . . what was I thinking?

That said there weren't too many dog walkers or joggers and I didn't see one other motorcycle or scooter. No golfers either . . ..

But as cold as it was the day was sunny and life was good on two wheels. :D

I couldn't take too many shots with the Zuma on the side stand . . . it was quite windy. These two pics are looking out over North Cove off the Connecticut River.

The following pics were taken in Fenwick, previous stomping grounds of the actress Kate Hepburn and known as a nice place to play golf.

The ice has been forming just within the last day since the temperature dropped dramatically. This is a view over South Cove looking towards the "Cause Way" and "Saybrook Point" by the river.

I give you credit..not letting an obstacle like cold weather stop you from doing the things you enjoy.. I would be out there too.

I think it effected my brain. "Causeway" is one word.

When I was younger I had a chance to do some snowmobiling and never forgot how much fun that was. So Winter riding on motorcycles, and more recently scooters, has been enjoyable (within reason) as well. 8)

Discretion is key as far as safety is concerned of course. :geek:

When I was kid up on Long Island I was into SCUBA diving. Went diving in 30 deg one day ..Came out of the water and didn't feel the ground again for two days.. Had a wet suit on but no booties.. I think I lasted maybe 15 minutes.. When you're a kid there are no obstacles especially for the dumb ones LOL

Here's a better unobstructed view of the cove. Just in front of the sea wall, in the shadows, the slushy ice was starting to accumulate . . ..

Don't get me started!

I still can't believe I rode to the Summit of Mt. Washington and back home within 24 hours on my KLR. Every time I look at it I think about that ride and others . . ..

Another cold one today. Visited the usual sites. After a few days of serious cold temps the coves are freezing over and chunks of ice are making their way down river. I felt sorry for the wildlife.

That said, this time I took the bikes out for a "warm up". 8)

And a thousand miles a year for every year I've ridden my KLR. Hope to live another thousand miles a year . . . or something like that. ;)
