new pcx owner

Post by Yorkie150 »

Hi .....just purchased a May 2018 registered PCX 125 ( 2019 Model ). One owner from new and only 285miles.

Its the smallest bike I have ridden since I was a kid and feels very strange compared to my BMW ......but fun !!!

Its going with us on a European adventure in our motorhome next year....

Currently sat with the owners manual trying to figure out oil changes / maintenance etc ...and how to make it go faster :)

looking forward to many miles ahead

regards from Yorkshire UK.

Hi, congrats for the purchase, after some testing, best and easier way to make the 2019 pcx faster is to change the rollers, nothing else !

OEM rollers are 18 grams (or 18.5, i don't remember). You can put some 15 grams rollers (model on the 2015 pcx for example), it improves a lot the acceleration, with no loss in vmax. (118 kmh at rev limiter, in descent ! )

I tried with an aftermarket vario, the results are a bit deceiving, the stock vario seems to be already well tuned, so no need to touch that i guess...

scooters are totally alien to me...never ridden one before ... I have a Couple of large BMW tourers and the scoot will be my summer Vino / Vin / Cafe ''transportation device''. :)

So rollers / various are a foreign language to me :)

Here is a quick lesson, as I understand it, and I am not an expert by any means.

Unlike motorcycles, scooters are automatics so they do not have gear boxes. Instead, they have a belt that connects to a round mechanism called a variator which contains some weighted rollers. As the accelerator increases the variator spins faster, which then affects the weights... rollers...and causes the belt to move farther out, which works in the same manner as changing to a bigger sprocket in your geared motorcycle. The rollers determine how quickly the belt will move out to its optimal position. The variator, on the other hand, determines just how fast the machine can go, since it has a limit...the belt can only go so far.

Aftermarket variators were created for those who wanted to increase that maximum limit. Some work better than others, though the engine itself is a limiting factor as well. If you only have 13 hp to work with don't expect it to do what 15 hp can do.

And that is about the life it of my knowledge. I hope that helps some.
