Route 66 crossing the Mississippi

Post by Urbanian »

Historic Route 66 crossing the Mighty Mississippi on the “Chain of Rocks” bridge.

Today it’s more of a museum than a transportation bridge. A bicycle organization raised funds to refurbish the bridge and connect it with a bike trail network. The bridge is now open to only non-motorized traffic.

That's something to be proud of! Preserved, yet functional. Very nice ;)

Now I feel old. I use to DRIVE across that bridge, unless that is the one that the trains used. It was quite tight to pass oncoming traffic on it. That was in the late '60s.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

nope. Had to walk across.

Gotta get on the freeway to cross the river on a scooter.

There is an interstate highway bridge immediately north of here. You can barely see it on the far right of the first pic.

For a while I thought that this bridge was seen in the movie Easy Rider. But no, that was Long-Allen Bridge at Morgan, Louisiana.

I have learned from my mistakes, and I am sure I can repeat them exactly.
