Super Cub - Coolest bike I've seen in years!

Post by fish »

While at the Art on the (school) Lawn show today in my coffee village, I saw a convoy of 6 Can-Am Spyders and a whole bunch of motorcycles and cruisers ride through town.
Then I came upon these two Hondas parked in the shade.

$3600 MSRP with only an $80 rear rack for accessories. Probably put you out the door for @$4500, all in.

That dealer is 86 miles away.

I've seen nothing in recent years that impressed me as much as these two beauties.
I like: small engines, big wheels, ABS, LEDs, quality build.
If I was 5'7" instead of 6'3".!!

At that price they've a lot of detractors - I'm not one.

Yeah, I like the looks of them.
Don't forget these transmission's have been severely tested (beaten on, in the case of a few Big Reds we had),
they just don't break.
If I was 57 instead of 70.!!Ha!

If I didn't live in the middle of 3/4 million lunatic cagers I'd have one in a NY min. Even at 70+.

My local Honda dealers don't have any in stock. The closest one I've seen is at a Rhode Island dealership. They had two recently and now just one left. Honda didn't spread the wealth too evenly with this new introduction.

That said Corbin has already jumped on the band wagon and started making seats for them. :D

Hope it's not a knee banger for bigger people or the seat is too far forward. No way to tell when there's nothing to have a "look-see" or throw a leg over within a reasonable distance.

They do attract attention. Just something about them. Not very practical compared to a PCX but much easier to work on I'll bet. ;)

Prefer the Honda seat to the Corbin Tijuana-Tuck look. Your eye shouldn't go to the seat on any ride. A mistake custom seats make.

This bike is gorgeous , but I wonder about its long term success. $4500 -no storage, no CVT, 125 power, and it costs you extra to carry a passenger vs $4200-4300 for the amazing PCX. I’ll be interested to see the annual volume once all the nostalgia fans have purchased.

Might just hold it's value quite well....like the lamented SH scoots which sell quite well now, and are readily scooped up whenever one comes on the used market.
Honda give no indication of pushing for large volume sales with this bike …..Just the opposite.
Because - these Super Cubs are offered in limited numbers only, and probably for a limited time only - just as they did a few years ago with the "over-priced" SH models in the USA.
An SH150 popped up locally at a dealer - I went down the day after it was listed on the net. Too late - fellow from 4 states away bought it over the phone and paid for shipping....in spite of its scraped panels.

This Cub will have its detractors....
Me, I think it's brilliant marketing - finally, from one of the Big 4 Japanese houses!

I met my first wife at a barn dance near Bath (UK) back in 1970. When I offered her a ride home she told me she had a bike. I told her 'no problem' as I had a mini-van. Yup, I managed to get that sucker in that little van - had to leave the doors open though.

She kept that bike for years - it was identical to this:

Honda's is trying the milk this retro appeal of the bike.

Selling at $3000 in Thailand with it's specs not at all different at the Honda wave 110i at $1200.

The thing reminds me of the many pictures I have seen of life in India! Most of the bike traffic looked like those little bikes, and they were carrying all sorts of things on them.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Wave has two seats, much better vehicle in a lot of ways, specs aren't the same though, the new Cub is a 125 and the components are nicer quality.

The one we have here in Thai is a Cub 110cc.

I agree with a nicer quality components, though it still shouldn't be double the price of the wave 110.

That 2018 isn't the same as the one in this thread, the two are very different.

These Cubs, in person, were impressive.
I found them after noticing the fathers of two families pointing and staring at them from across the street!
Up close, the build quality is very impressive.
If I lived in a small 25mph town, like my coffee village, I would have ordered .......
No, not at 6'3"+ I wouldn't have. Probably.
