Tail of The Mouse

Post by fish »

I pretty much gave up trying to scrape things after I reached puberty.

My morning route includes this steeply downhill bit of road.
That's pretty much it. No other sharp corners.
Tree-lined, winter shaded....for ice and/or wet leaves.

Had a moment one morning a few years ago - a very well driven 1st Gen. Golf GTi came upon me in these bends. My scooter tail lights surprised him in the dark, but he managed to pass me with inches to spare!

That bit of road in his morning commute is probably his favorite. Only a GTi could have accomplished his maneuver. (thank you Wolfsburg!)

There is a bit of road that I favor that looks like that: Curvy drop into a shaded ravine creek, that I treasure. Last week I'll swear it dropped 20 F from the sweltering sun into the oasis of cool.

Before the roads here were changed to modern standards-4 lane chutes- they were much like the tail of the mouse.
I new them well and not too many could compete with me riding my bike. Once though a mini cooper s gave me a run for my money.
Later on did own a Mini not the S model but it was a blast -a go cart that would seat four and hold 3 24 packs of bottled beer in the trunk- 10 inch rims-tiny thing-made the new Mini's look like boats.

I like the style on both, though the new ones look "beefier", including the wider tires. The one that really intrigues me is the Countryman that sits higher and a little wider with AWD, like a baby SUV. They call it a SAV instead of a SUV, but it still looks really nice!

I wonder how well it would handle those types of roads.

A friend of mine had an Austin America . . .. That thing was like driving a go-cart. Sort of an orange color. 8)

I had a MG Midget way back, like this. A very small car, hardly any room for beer.
Changed the vbelt to run only the generator-no water pump or fan in the winter.
Sometimes it would idle all day/night in front of my local bar. The fuel gauge never seemed to move.
It was the only way to get any heat from that tiny eng. at -15 to -35 deg.

Got a chance to drive a "Midget" another friend of mine had a few times too. Green. Nice car. They don't make'em like that anymore. Not the most reliable cars but spelled pure fun when they ran well . . .. :D

Don't forget the MGB and MGB GT too!

Now for some memory jogging entertainment.

"The Italian Job" - Trailer

Oh life was good in days of yore . . .. It was OK to have fun and be reckless. :D

Cue the real "Mini" sequences.

In the 2003 version of that movie they had one of the original Minis. The rest were the newer kind. It was fun to watch too, just like the first one (which I saw on the big screen way back then.)

Charlize drive that original but they had to extend it a little because she is so tall.

I had a Midget just like that - mine was blue. I even remember the registration number - BFX 285 B (a 1964 one)
