Centre Stand

Post by Mark2260 »

Hi,
After reading about centrestand being seized or not working I thought I would check my new bikes stand.
I can see why they go bad, mine had a tiny amount of grease at one end and dry everywhere else so I packed it with acf50 waterproof grease, should be good for a while.

Why do so many motorcycles come from the factory with MINIMAL grease in many places on a motorcycle?

Grease is cheap.

Grease is messy, takes time to apply and time is money.

Just enough grease until the warranty runs out. ;)

Given a one year warranty here in the US, that's not a lot of grease.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

Dealers usually have a delivery fee or dealer fee they charge the consumer. That delivery fee is supposed to be a complete once over and to catch any manufacturing sins .That would include all lubrication points and critical nuts and bolts. Is it done? probably not .

I think gn2 nailed it, grease is messy and most consumers don't want any sight of it.
Having owned and maintained a heavy truck for years and following the manufacturer's guidelines to purge the grease points, will always be messy.
So far so good with my equipment but anyone squeamish about aesthetics might not like the results.

A benefit of having my Forza trike - the centre stand, although greased correctly and working perfectly and with no sign of rust, is redundant and has been removed in it's entirety. I advertised it on the 'bay site but no takers, maybe they last better than they look :).

Perhaps an ad for the wheel, swing arm, rear brake caliper and centre-stand (2015 NSS300 - genuine 1082 miles) on the For Sale page will attract UK buyers.
If you don't stand for something - you'll fall for anything.
