How to change rear shocks on 2018 Pcx

Post by Craigo »

Just wondering if someone could direct me to a walk thru guide on changing out the rear shocks.I bought some new YSS units from Thailand....The bottom mounts are basic , the top mounts look like a certain amount of panel removing is required..Thanks

Hi Craigo,
member Jge64 is correct. Scroll down the first page of our How-to board. There you will find a well written thread:

If you can remove the under seat storage, you can easily access the rear suspension nut.
Everything looks better from the inside of a motorcycle helmet...

The service manual would have you remove the side body panels before the luggage box for 2015 models. But if you're tricky you can get the luggage box out without removing the large side panels. Once the luggage box is out you have access to the top bolts on the rear shocks. The tricky part is not letting the battery box bolts fall back into the chassis.

Remove;
Seat
Grabrail cover
Grabrail
4 Bolts and some trim clips
Seat release cable catch
Battery box nuts

Pick up here and only go as far as you need to reach the upper shock bolts.

The grabrail cover has a delicate tab that can break off but isn't that critical, watch the video on a computer so you see the annotation and warnings.

If you let the bolt studs in the battery box fall back behind the box itself you are screwed and will have to tear down more. Dance carefully with those little nuts on reassembly and don't push the studs back.

Ouch! add breather box and exhaust removal to the old procedure. Great find on that video though. Just going to take a little more time... you can do it!

I see Honda has re-positioned the battery box bolts and most likely eliminated the possibility of the bolts falling back into the chassis after you remove the nut.
