Lighting

Post by Medicpcx »

Hello,
I am looking to add some lighting to my PCX. I need amber and white LEDs in one unit what I can easily mount what are able to flash.
If any one knows where to look for these this would be much help.
Thanks

How would adding accessory lighting affect the battery and power? Is the stock electrical set-up up able to handle extra accessories like that? Especially on those pcx which are pre-LED like mine. I'm still running my first battery after 3+ years. Still works. Original (dim) bulbs, too. I know there are batteries built for extra power for accessories such as lighting. Is something like like that necessary if lights or light strips are added? Would love to go without my high viz jacket on hot summer nights and still be seen on a black scooter. Extra light seems to be an option

If you use LED lights there will be very little draw from them. I have accessory lights front and back on my bike, and I have had no problems with them since I put them on, some of which have been on my bike for at least 3 years now.

If you add LED lights to your turn signals you will probably have to change your flasher Relay so that it won't hyperflash.
Otherwise, if you want them to come on when you start the bike make it easy for you to add more later by having a single hookup point.

I use this website for a lot of my lighting needs. (Except for my Kawells, which I bought on amazon.com)

Have a look on ebay for 'switchback led kits' not sure if your scoot has 1156 or 1157 bulbs but there are kits for both, done it on my SH300 so my indicators are running lights now, seems to help when filtering through London traffic making me a bit more visable

I have these lights ordered and will arrive today. ended up with the floods and not spots. hope thats the right one.
Where you spliced the wires, will they run continuously? any pictures of that port? i have the service manual but can't decide the best place to splice. I was considering splicing them into the headlights . One for dims and one for brights. Or maybe both on one or the other setting.

Also considered mounting one horizontally below the headlight above the wheel which would run continuously. Not sure how to mount it there yet.

Will let you know what I end up doing.

If you want switchback lights you can also look at my favorite site for led stuff.

https://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/led ... k,119,6446:

And under the motorcycle category they have lots of kits as well as other "stuff".

Also installed my kawell lights this morning. Same lights as above. Mounted them to the existing reflector bracket. Just removed the reflector. Had to use a spacer and longer bolt to get it right. Considered mounting where the reflector bracket attaches to the bike. Didn't have the right spacer or bolts. Looks similar to all the other photos. Spliced the two lights into one wire and then that one into the ignition wiring. Light turns on after I turn the key unlike the headlights which don't turn on until the engine is started. Not bad. Took a couple weeks to plan and find the right wiring place. Pics if anyone wants to look. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... x07xx2IDjV

It's not perfect but it is easy change how the lights are mounted.

I have mine located there and I set them up on a switch on the handlebar. I did this because riding at night is dangerous enough that if a fuse blew and took the main lights, I would want lights to get me to a safe destination. Of course, I believe in overkill. I also have some baby strobe lights and wheel well lights that I have a switch for as well. Plus I recently attached two led spot lights to the mirror bolts as well. Yep, overkill.

I did, however, set up some of my accessory LED lights so that they would come on when the bike starts. ...and you should see the tail lights. yep, overkill.

Oh, and I updated the headlights to HS5 bulbs and added lights to the empty sockets. :-)

I installed quick disconnect waterproof connectors on the Kawells, and then spliced them into a universal positive and negative co-ax that went up and spliced into the power connector in the cubby box. It's been fine for three years.

I think having the Kawells on whenever you ride is a great idea. In fact, I turn mine on every time I ride, day or night. I just hooked them up separately so that I would have control of them if there ended up being any kind of electrical issue. Call it my safety net if you will. I spent too much time in the military.

Had some electrical issues and one light stopped working. Loose connection and fixed that. Both work again. More secure and waterproof. Moved them up to where the reflector bracket attaches. Better balance on each side. The brackets weren't symmetrical. Looked a little cock-eyed. Much better now. Used a one inch stainless steel spacer to get around the fender, wider washers on each side of the light bracket, and a M6-1.0x65mm bolt and used the original nut. Used the left side cover (variator cover) long bolt as a "practice" bolt. 65mm is perfect length. That left side cover bolt has a 8mm head but the new one is the larger (and better) 10mm. Once torqued tight, it is difficult to angle up or down but once I find that sweet spot, it will not move! Angled around 15 degrees forward from vertical right now to not blind oncoming traffic. Any angle closer to vertical is much too bright for other cars. WOW are the bright! Considering a switch for when I need to turn them off. I love working on this scooter!

Kawells mounted on reflector position. I replace them about every 18 months just to keep them corrosion free.

We have co-ax cabling on our bikes?

Cable TV. It was an option. You weren't offered that option?

Nice Glen! Different. So exactly which quick connects did you use? Posi type or marine type or ...?
