They've moved my 91yr old, stone deaf, mother to the 2nd floor of the middle school in Tampa. Hope that's high enough.
Prayers for all this morning....

WhiteNoise wrote:@ homie, maybe think a bit more about moving to Florida again. You know, I know that after living there 15 years (both of us and not knowing each other) that we got a good taste of Mother Nature's strong hand in the South.
Ya know, I was wondering today how my previous home on Florida's west coast will fair this day. Then I sighed and said, thank God I'm not living those nightmare's anymore. I'm much safer right were I am. I can always visit Florida on her good days. Just sayin' ;)
Oh for sure we go back someday WN and Floridians will have it built up stronger than ever. New structures with better building code construction massive tourist commerce, pina coladas, palm trees and lazy days in the sunbelt. Shoveling snow is not for us OLD salty's ;)

I can tell you that the streets and towns look like ghost towns , no cars on the road , windows boarded... Rain steady now trees with a light sway with an occasional gust . Nothing but police cars cruising the streets. If my roof stays on all will be good .. LOL.. Could this be the storm of the century?? I dunno, been through some bad ones .... I think if hits the mainland the land will slow it down, at any rate we shall prevail ????? FYI my location just north of Tampa approx. 12 hrs north of the fury..

Thanks for the info EasyRider. I've got relatives living on the Treasure Coast down there.

Been watching ABC this morning and they winds and rain in Miami were already kicking up and the storm center was still a hundred miles away. :geek:

Ya a black screen appears. When it does, just click on the underscored words: "Watch this video on youtube" and then you will be taken to a youtube channel. Where it plays.

Love it! A song that drives me to our Southern Most Point - to order one of the very best Pina Colada's in the US of A! ;) But....not today. The Keys are barren and roadways are under water. A sad sad day indeed.

Update: Whilst sleeping Irma twirled herself into a Cat 4. I told you She was a Bitch! Her outer bands are tossing Tornado's everywhere. Storm surge is killer. Talk about Fear!

I can remember 1988 when I buried myself in a closet for 4 LONG hours. Tornado's - 4 to be exact were just miles away surrounding our community. Incredible how the lightening was flashing, non-stop, back to back... nothing like I've ever seen. How does that happen? And the noise! My God! Deep Growling sounds that I thought would Never end. I was alone. I shook and prayed while I crapped in my pants. All that power all the strength above and there I sat like a crumb waiting to be swept away.

Now Irma, "I can only imagine...."

People running up and down the stairs for sure... water rising go up, tornado forming go down. A come to Jesus moment for Floridians right now but you and I both know WN... we arent suppose to get too comfortable here. Is how He recruits :)

Physics. . .the laws of the Universe. . .to exist is to not exist. . .what does the edge of infinity look like? These and other topics will be covered in Volume I, Section 2, Subsection 2A, Para. 13.

But now. . .a brief video on "How to Speak Hip" for those who are a "Bring Down". . .for whatever reason. . .although a hurricane may be a valid excuse in certain circumstances.

The guy was terrifying... like Charles Manson scary. Sounds like Kelsey Grammer but with a machete under his jacket to cut off your head.

"Who'll Stop the Rain" - Awesome movie too. A statement of the times. . .but as an undercurrent. . .not front page. One of my favorite songs and movies.

Another movie with Nick Nolte definitely worth seeing for it's message about human character under conditions of "horror", as Kurtz would say, is the "Thin Red Line".

The thing about major storms like Harvey and Irma is that the better angels of our character are revealed by the cooperative efforts to help each other survive. Yet there are those who will still ravage the landscape by stealing and looting and taking advantage of people in a moment of weakness. The Yin and Yang. . .and so it goes. :geek:

I'm looking at the news where they have let traffic travel on a divided highway (causeway) in the wrong lanes without an emergency or police escort to lead o_O :o

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE THE DRIVER HEADING THAT CONVOY INTO HEAD ON TRAFFIC?

Confused drivers meeting head on traffic in their own lanes WOW! GOOFY!

Hmmm... I understand the concept of travel when the government wants everyone to get out as fast as possible so they open the South bound lanes for North bound traffic, but they should have cops at entrance and exit points to make sure everyone understands the new rules. I have seen this type of setup used many times in national emergencies, but there have always been police escorts and traffic directors.

Perhaps they do but folks on this long bridge were still not getting the concept without an emergency vehicle leading the whole way. One guy was nosed in blocking like you see truckers do when they don't want people cutting the line. He just had to get out of the way after finally getting with the program.

It's best to stand back from the herd in case they spook and stampede so you don't get trampled on. ;)

For all intents and purposes Irma is over, now comes the recovery. In the past couple days I've been using the scooter 100% of the time because there are so many trees blocking the roads, it's easy to get the scooter around them where a car can't. It's proving to be invaluable after a disaster like this. Not to mention the gas savings, there still no gas down here so A fill up in the scooter takes all the pressure off getting around.

That's great! did you think to put a little fuel in the tool shed before you bailed so as to have a few hundred miles of reserve?
