Any ideas on locating a cheap shed for my PCX??
My girl bought a house last year that came with a plastic shed in the back. I'm thinking about getting something like that.... but I know I've seen metal sheds from Sears for less than $300, and they were at least 10' x 10'.
I met a guy who stores his Grom inside... right in his living room. I could probly do that, but I'm not sure I really want to. He claims that he does it primarily to prevent theft, and weather protection is secondary for him. The mirror and side lights that stick out on my 2013 model make it pretty damn difficult to get in and out of a regular, single-size door frame. 2014 or 2015 models remove those protruding blinkers, so would likely be much easier to move inside a single-size door frame.
Anyway.... any ideas for cheap sheds with wide doors??

Here's the one I saw for sub-$300, which is actually $350 now...

Here's a smaller 8'x6' for only $250...

I have a feeling that those metal sheds will leak much more than the plastic ones will. Something like this plastic one might actually protect the bike better from the elements, however... it's so small that there likely wouldn't be room for anything else. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure if the bike will fit in this thing or not...

Don't forget to factor in the cost of a concrete slab to sit it on.

A wood platform would be far less expensive.chicaboo wrote:Don't forget to factor in the cost of a concrete slab to sit it on.

I can't imagine wanting to park a motorbike in the house. I would thing that the smell of fuel, oil, etc. would soon permeate the air.

I got a "Shed-in-a-box" for around $130 four seasons ago. PCX fits great. Forza is a bit of a squeeze, but also fits.

If you get a wood shed with walls constructed of oriented strand board (ground up wood glued and pressed into sheets) it may be OK for a while (10+ years) but my experience has been (and even though I painted it really good. . .especially along the cut edges) that the leading edge closest to the ground will start to rot or come apart first. The rain water splashing up from the ground will work on it after a while. If it's elevated higher and you have a ramp going up into it to then it may reduce the risk. Also, the facing surfaces will be OK for a while. . .if well painted. . .but they will start to shed little potato chip type fragments . . .especially on the sunny sides. Not the end of the world. . .just keep up on the paint maintenance. . .get it well soaked into the nooks and crannies. There are more expensive type "junk wood" sheets that are supposedly waterproof that are used in lieu of plywood for roofing due to their reduced risk of warping but I don't have any experience with those yet. Just something to be aware of. Use pressure treated on the sills. . ..

I'd probly just level the ground and throw some 18" x 18" pavers on top.chicaboo wrote:Don't forget to factor in the cost of a concrete slab to sit it on.
Perhaps with a carburetor and petcock valve... there would be a smell of fuel. But fuel injected setups shouldn't really smell of fuel. And you certainly shouldn't be able to smell oil, unless something's majorly wrong.kramnala58 wrote:I can't imagine wanting to park a motorbike in the house. That doesn't come with a "door" to cover that open hole?? I guess just hanging up a tarp right there wouldn't be so bad. Will definitely need to consider this one, but I feel like theft is still an issue with this option.GeorgeSK wrote:I got a "Shed-in-a-box" for around $130 four seasons ago. PCX fits great. And that's pretty much why I'm leaning toward plastic if I don't leave it in the house... They're much more expensive, but they should be fairly easy to put up and even take down if I move....PCX150Rider wrote:If you get a wood shed with walls constructed of oriented strand board (ground up wood glued and pressed into sheets) it may be OK for a while (10+ years) but my experience has been (and even though I painted it really good. . .especially along the cut edges) that the leading edge closest to the ground will start to rot or come apart first. Hmm.... I see in that thread that there is a door on it. If I could lay some pavers down and tuck the sides of the walls under there, that might keep the dew out better. This is by far the cheapest and easiest solution, for sure.GeorgeSK wrote:I got a "Shed-in-a-box" for around $130 four seasons ago. PCX fits great. Forza is a bit of a squeeze, but also fits.

After looking at that design, tho... I'm wondering if I could possibly find an EZ-UP tent with walls.
Pretty sure it's between that Shed-in-a-box and a $500 plastic shed like this one --> http://www.sears.com/craftsman-8'-x-4'- ... ockType=G5
Hmm...

Instead of that, I'd probably just invest in a quality bike cover. You're mostly trying to keep the weather off of the bike. Nelson-Rigg ones have vents, so they breathe and don't trap in moisture. They are fitted pretty well to the shape of a bike, and have grommets for bungees to fasten them tight at the bottom too.
If you have the room and option to bring it inside, that's preferable! You can work on it in the comfort of your home, while the snow is blowing and take your sweet time. Don't let the mirrors stop you. Just loosen the nut under the cover and rotate them back. It's for the whole winter, after all. Not a big deal to re-adjust once the nice weather comes. Do it quick, before you're married, because a Mrs. generally won't allow it.

This looks interesting and affordable. Not expensive either considering it's intended job (or other items?)
Add a sturdy level water proof floor, sensor lighting, and lock and this might be the one! Are you handy?

However, if you can bring it inside your home, that would be my first choice
