8 lights from FI

Post by GolDen »

Uffffff....
Try to fix my forza.
Before servise was 5 long + 4 short lights.
Change the gear belt and parts. Wash the bike.
Now... 8 long lights...

5 longs + 4 shorts =code 54 = angle sensor(located under the windshield, kills the ignition when
scooter falls to the ground).

8 longs (code 80) doesn't exist. Read that again.
(8 shorts= TPS =poor acceleration but engine 'works' with fail-safe pre-programmed replacement ECU input value. Very unlikely).

If the scooter works fine, just erase ANY freakin' code from the ECU's memory. I can provide
the procedure if you ask.

Yes.... 8 short, sorry.

Bike is Ok no any complaine. Could you, please, tell me how to erase ECU memory?
Thanks for your support!

Golden,

To erase memory codes:

- remove the (right) glove-box cover (2 small screws). Under it is found the RED diagnostic plug.
remove this plug's cap. You'll need to jump 2 of the 4 wires there, the BROWN + Green/Black,
so better pull the whole plug out of the way.
- ok, with the switch OFF, jump those two wires...
- then turn the switch ON...remove the jump wire, the mil light will start blinking the memorized
codes...
- before 5 secs have elapsed, put the jump wire back on

Done, put the switch OFF, remove the jump wire, put the cap back.

I use a small one-strand copper wire for this (Honda sells a special, un-needed tool)

Hm.... change the "drop sensor"
Erase memory codes
But.... Nothing positives
Still 5+4 lights https://www.dropbox.com/s/eza3jw8p70vay ... 1.mp4?dl=0

And 8 lights https://www.dropbox.com/s/tnv91rwv3ylso ... 1.mp4?dl=0

Any suggestions?
Any ideas?
No accident. No any parts changes.
Just normal maintenance job (oil, filters) for last 2 years.
Have that problem about 6 months. Visit authorised service center 3 times. They changed tire, battery, oil. ;-)
When lights starts - engine lost a power.

Golden,

*54= Drop sensor. If that code still appears after you have changed the sensor, check the wiring
and connections (easier said than done).

*08=Throttle Position Sensor, as I've already told you. TPS is part of the Sensor Block bolted to the
left of the Throttle Body. If faulty, engine will work, but with reduced power (enough to make it home). It needs to be reset if replaced.

Code *08 should have been taken care of FIRST. (I had thought you meant *80 (impossible) but
your video clearly shows *08). Better leave that job to an experienced mechanic, though...

Then methodically checking the whole wiring for open/short circuits also asks for a qualified
mechanic + shop manual.

I'll check the factory wiring diagram to see if there's a 'connection' between the Drop sensor
and TPS, and if so, will report.

UPDATE : Yes, there's a link between those 2 sensors : the Y/Bk wire, which feeds them 5 Volts
from the ECU.

Unplug the Drop sensor and see if you have 5 Volts at the Y/Bk wire, easy as that (do this
both when the bike works good, and when not). If 0 Volts here, there's a very good chance the
main sensor block ALSO isn't fed its own ECU voltage. The only way to make sure about the
sensor block is to remove the luggage box, disconnect the sensor, and check for that 5 Volts
there, too.

NOW, if there's no voltage at BOTH Y/BK wires, you have either a faulty ECU (or a nasty wiring
problem...)

Please report. A.

Hm...
Ok. What i decide to do...
Check y/bk wire connector s.
Open left side. Make link to y/bk wire to get information have 5v or not on-line. (Put small +5v voltmeter on it)
When yellow lights come in... We will see...
If +5v disappear.... That mean, that i need to change ECU?

Here is a simplified diagram of the 5 VOLTS FEED TO SENSORS.

What you should do first is : disconnect the DROP sensor and check for 5 volts at the Y/Bk wire.
If 0 volt there, go to the throttle body, disconnect its sensor block, and check its own Y/Bk wire
for 5 volts. If 0 volts there too, the ECU is probably faulty.

To make sure the ECU is really at fault, go to the ECU (still connected), and take a reading straight from its Y/Bk wire output by gently piercing its protective isolation (a delicate operation). If 0 volts
there too, the ECU is KAPUT. If 5 volts there, the wiring between the ECU and sensors is OPEN
somewhere.

It's all a matter of determining if,or not, the different sensors are fed the normal 5 VOLTS.

NOTE : the MAP sensor is also getting 5 volts from the ECU (Code#1, one short blink). So, with the
ECU faulty, you should see in succession :code 1, code 8, code 54.

There was a recall on the drop sensor I think.

No such recall on Honda's site. Where did you get that?
Then the guy has already changed it for a new one, if I understand well.

I am not sure where I heard about the recall. It might have been in the UK. I don't remember.

Guys. Could you sent me any picture, how can I reach to the ECU box?
Is it need a lot of disassemble? where is that damed box?
How much it could cost?
cause if I disassemble my lovely bike... its Thailand.... it could takes a 2-3 weeks to order the new ECU
If its not too expensive.... may be to order the new one is a good idea....
