New vario malossi

Post by extweem »

In recently let the dealer install a new vario malossi with 10.5 gr weights. Only the inner vario itself the weights and the spring where replaced. The outer vario and belt are still original.

The difference in speed is that i now reach 125 kph. The thing that changed is that is feel a pulsing vibration betweem 60 and 70 kph in the steering wheel. I assume its the belt that vibrates. Also the sound is much rawer then before. anyone else taht got this expierience. Some say on the dutch forum the weights are to low?

Another thing i noticed after a check if they changed the airfilter is that there was a bit oil behind the air filter is this normal?

Its a PCX 125 LED from 2016 with 5000 km.

That vario makes the engine uncomfortably screaming. So to answer, yes the noise is "normal". Give it some time to settle - at 5000 your belt should be ok enough. Also note the rollers in the malossi are quite crappy and will be shot in around 4000 kms.

I installed a Malossi vario, clutch and belt at 13,000km. Replaced the belt at 29,000km. Still using the same 11.5g roller weights, vario and clutch at 34,000km. For me the performance has been very pleasing.

extweem,
Please go to your profile and put your location in it, as others have already done on the thread. It makes replying much more relevant. There are other variator kits available, but some areas can not get certain ones. We can not tell if you are in one of those areas or not.

Have you made any modifications before the malossi parts?
I am interested in getting the bike to try and reach 120kms (max legal in Portugal), but I am some what lost with what to get without increasing cc.
I have the 2015 esp 150cc model.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Testerpt5,
Change your variator and rollers. That should do the trick. Just know that your bike will be a bit noisy because you are pushing the parts harder, though I doubt that it would harm the engine itself. Honda is conservative when they tune their scooters.

Just make sure your belt doesn't have high miles on it and you should be fine. After-market parts are made to improve your bike. Honda parts are made to keep your bike running as it was when it came from the factory. Also, Honda put the 18 gram rollers in because they were looking at improving gas mileage, not off-the-line time.

I have an NCY variator, drive face, and 13 gram rollers. Now the bike hits mid to high 70's in the mph area. Originally it hit the limiter at 64 mph. It also takes off faster. That is what after-market parts do for your bike.

My biggest doubt comes with the rollers.
I have the 2015esp 150cc model unmoddified (except the windshield), the factory rollers are 15g, which allows 70Mph, since I want more end speed, don´t care much about acceleration, I am thinking about dr.Pulley´s 16g rollers, as it was used by a brasillian honda dealer mechanic to get it to go faster.
Is this correct? I mean heavier rollers to get more end speed? (I know I´ll also have to change variator and belt)

Changing the roller to lighter rollers will give you faster pickup but you will still reach the same maximum speed as you do now. The belt has nowhere else to go, so it just gets to its max position quicker. An after-market variator will give it more room to move the belt, so your top end will increase.

In no case will your belt be able to go out beyond a certain distance, so your Top end will only go up so far...usually around the upper 70 mph range. To get more than that out of it you would have to modify the engine itself. That is why some riders put a Big Bore Kit in, which gives it a bigger piston. Then you get into an add-on fuel controller for the ECU, and other things.

Adding to what Mel46 said, you could move up to 12g-13 gram roller weights. That's what most of us use. When I added the 12g Dr. Pulley weights, I noticed lower cruising RPM and high RPM when accelerating. I recommend them for that reason.
