120/80-14 rear and what size front tires

Post by Pcxdemon »

Hey, let's revisit this topic. I'm in need to replace the tires again. I'll probably look at michelins. Has anyone that has upgraded to larger tires found any negative effects from upsizing? I'd like to gear mine up as my power to trans ratio is much too short now but I also want to gain some overal height so I can lean bit more in to the corners..

The 140/70-14 rear mich will barely clear the ground with the C-stand down and require raising the hugger 1/2 inch. I would think any taller tire might make the C-stand un-usable. However there was one other who did this in this forum. For the easier over sized tire mod the 140/70-14 is the ticket.

As for the front... 120/70-14 is the biggest you can put without removing the fender altogether. It fits nice and close, requires no modification but if you pick up a stone it will rattle through between tire and fender, startling until you know whats going on.

If you just want more clearance to lay into the turns consider removing the C-stand and you are good to go 8)

How have you performance been affected by those large tires? Lost any acelaration? Gain much top speed? It's my exhaust that contacts the ground first with these shit stock shockies around the twisties so that's my primary reason for extra height. I'm going to Thailand tomorrow for a holiday so I'll pick myself a pair over there and bring it back with me.. Btw I like those mirrors, have you got anymore mirror shots and a rear tire fitted shot from the back? Thanks

Yes, you lose 4 mph with that set of tires for mass. The top speed on an LED PCX with stock tires is 64 mph, you will drop to 60. Suggest a NCY vario kit with 13 gram rollers to bring it back up and beyond to 70+ mph.

:D I'm way past 13g roller and I'm sure I have vario options in stock to do what I need. I think perhaps going 140 and 120 may be too large considering loss of top end, perhaps slower acelaration too?
I'd be inclined to try 120 rear and 100? at the front.
Has anyone tried 120 rear? Mirrors are cool, like the style..
