Break-in new and rebuilt engines

This information will be my choice of break-in method for all the reasons documented, if you can believe the author I guess the worse that can happen is to deglaze the cylinders, replace the rings and try again for maximun compression if not satisfied.

Ive been breaking in all sorts of engines for 40 years. Engine designers that I've known over the years all pretty much say the same. CONSUMER engines don't need much, and for the break in period should be exercised so you use all of the power Band, never spending long times at any one rpm. Stay away from the top 10 pct of the power band for the prescribed break in period that the manual stipulates. Nothing else.

I use a dial down version of Mototune.
Use honda oil, let the engine idle so that it's at working temperature. Take it out and ride it harder than you would ride it in real conditions. varying the RPM. Sudden throttle opening can be ok. But don't rev it at redline to much. Do that aggressive riding for around 30km and change your oil. It's ok then.
