Problem with new NCY variator/clutch kit. Or just me?

Post by neb4152 »

I can get everything in place but the clutch assembly doesn't seat all they way and when I torque it down even part of the way, it locks up the wheel. After inspection I compared it to my original clutch assembly and it looks totally wrong! See the picture. Do all NCY clutch assemblies for the pcx150 look like this or is mine a fluke. I do know this looks nothing like the one on the scooterworks website where I purchased it. I've alread set up a return and refund but it will be Monday before that happens.

The one on the left looks like its not for the pcx,has that bulge ring, probably thats why locks the wheel when tightened

Glad to hear another opinion. I didn't think it was right. The bearings are too small, too. I'll assume ncy packaged the wrong secondary slider in the box. If I go the route of the whole kit again I'll buy from corsportusa.com. Much cheaper for this kit. Awaiting their reply about this same issue. Want to be sure everything will be correct out of the box. Old variator and clutch/secondary slider are back in and working fine. I guess something good about all this was opening it all up and cleaning 7000miles of belt dust and dirt. New belt ordered but not needed for the original parts yet. Thanks again. Any upgrades that work in the future I'll be sure to share.

Interesting... Webike is a good online distributor. I wonder what the problem was.

I buy from Corsportusa.com and have since I purchased my wife's bike, which was bought in 2012. Never a problem, and they are closer, but they don't have some of the pretty accessories that Webike does.

Mel, He didn't buy stuff from Webike but rather from Scooterworks instead. Webike is a solid performer in part supply..

I think the op had been sent the wrong part since this thread is 3 weeks old and he's since posted.
I got my NCY super transmission kit directly from Taiwan and had no such problems. The best thing about the kit is the rear pulley has their own bearings and that completely did away with the 2013 PCX grinding bearing noise.

OK, what grinding bearing noise are you referring too? My scoot makes some noises for sure. Am I missing something?

Search for final drive bearing or 'face set driven' bearing here or on youtube - several videos on it - my 2014 led model suffered the same thing. Rather than a bearing swapout which needs specialist tools, the face set driven part can be purchased in the UK for £100+!!!, or shipped from Taiwan or purchased in the US for $30 or so.

You say you purchased your NCY super transmission set from Taiwan. So how did you
do that ? You do realize that there is some confusion over that NCY ''kit'' among many of us, Right ?

I have recently posted on my ''fail'' trying to replace the rear clutch one week ago.

As has been demonstrated, not all of the dealers sell the correct clutch parts for your particular year and model because of confusion about what year the model is and if it is a 125cc or a 150cc. It isnt always the fault of the vendor because they are in the dark on these differences as well. In the United States we call the 2013 model that because it is designated as such here. Over in other countries though, it might be considered a 2012 model because that is when it may have been manufactured. Also, some countries only sell the 125cc version, unlike the United States which only sold the 125cc PCX for one year before bringing in the 150cc 2013 model.

You probably need to return the bad part along with pictures to show the difference between theirs and yours. You may be able to email them about this issue and have them investigate before getting back to you with the correct part.

Just as a side note, the variator, drive face and 13 gram rollers fit the 125cc and the 150cc without any problems. That is why many of us have opted to just stop after installing those items. The results would be close to the same anyway.

Good luck. Let us know if you get this resolved.
