Duplicate key for my 2015 PCX

Post by wibblet »

Happy new year guys!

I lost my keys yesterday which included my car key too. Luckily, I found my duplicates for both and now I'm going to keep my PCX key separate. I searched through the forum and found someone asking about lost keys with no duplicate so I bought the blank thinking all hope was lost. Here is the blank someone recommended from Ebay. https://goo.gl/Eg4Yez

I actually just found my duplicates for my car and bike so I'm not too depressed anymore haha. My question is, now that I have the key how hard would it be for a locksmith to duplicate it? Also do I have to use the magnets for the hexagon? If so, how can I find out the magnet placement if any. Thank you for your time!

Key blanks should be avail. on ebay.
New key blank come with magnets. Set them on magnets of orig. key. They'll stick for you when correctly oriented. Now, without flipping them over, but them in exact same holes on new key. Put little cover over end of new key.
Have locksmith or local hardware store cut the new key.
New magnets will almost jump onto correct position of orig key end. Try it, you'll see.

I had this same situation on my older Burgman 400 so I am guessing that most of the Japanese manufacturers are doing this. The magnets are for locking the shutter, which many riders do not use, since it is easy to break the steering lock if a thief wants the bike.

I would never lock my shutter. Just antagonizes the thief to do more damage. But yes, it could slow him up by a minute or two.... well 30 seconds at least.

I just replaced my shutter assembly since I need 2 keys. My bike had only 1 key when I purchased it. Shutter kit cost around 25.00 bucks with 2 keys. Just go to locksmith copied the keys and switched out the shutter assembly. The longest part was to remove plastics to get to shutter assembly.

Could you share a link to where you bought two keys for that price? The best I am finding is 1 key blank on eBay for $23 with shipping. Thanks in advance!

I did this today with my new key from Glascow (took 7 weeks to arrive).
Stuck the magnets to my old key and marked the tops with a sharpie.
They are pretty small are easily flipped around. They are a very snug fit so you also have
to push them in and are a bugger to get back out if you make a mistake, believe me.
Works great now.
