Kevlar Jeans - any good?

Those of you who have been reading my latest posts will know that I have finally nailed a jacket down but still need everything else (got a helment of course..)

I was doing some searches and will almost certainly be getting some textile armoured waterproof goretex cordura trousers combo setup BUT I came across denim jeans that have this DuPont kevlar weave and some of them do have CE armour in the hips and Knees.

The benefit is that they look pretty damn good mostly and you could go to the local bar in them.
My question is are they still relatively safe? As in, how will the bottom half of the body cope with a 40mph slide/tunble in them?
I appreciate they are not full monty leather motorcycle pants but though they would make a nice addition to the textile all weather trousers/pants.

When I get my R3 - cough - (crossed fingers) I will get some leathers anyway but thats next Spring at the very least.

I've worn Kevlar lined jeans for the past 12 years or so and still do. From 49cc scooters to turbo'd hyabusas. Trick is not to fall off.

I guess they ought to do okay. The trick is that kevlar in and of itself isn't very abrasion resistant. So it needs to be woven in a blend with Lycra or Dynatec to really grant you protection.

You may want to ask your dealer or supplier if it's pure kevlar or a blended fabric.

FYI, I use Kevlar Mesh for both my jacket and pants.

Sounds like there is no point getting them if they do not offer the right protection.

I assume that they won't compete with cordura armoured textile trousers then?

You can always wear protective armor wear undergarments such as bohn adventure pants. I wear them under my Kevlar jeans. Did it all summer. Was perfect for me. Quite a bit of the armor is present. How well it will do in an off is to be determined.
I go with this thought: some(or more) armor is better than none if fitted properly (in place). Google motorcycle armor clothing or similar wording. See what pops up. Investigate and read reviews. Takes time I know, but worth it in the end.
More knowledge is better ;) Good luck and let us know how you do & what you decide.

I ad a nightmare trying on textile trousers.. I didn't get round to looking at their discounted kevlar jeans as I was too flustered at this point :)

The two would be pretty similar in protection if you're talking about 1000 denier cordura.

Without the brand name, it's hard to get an idea of what the quality will be like.

Regarding your fit issue, I'd recommend either of these:
http://www.dragginjeans.com/relaxed-mens/
http://joerocket.com/catalog/index.cfm/ ... cket_Jeans

In combination with something like this:
http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/forc ... protectors

I use a similar combination because the original armor that came with my kevlar pants was too thick and too long and wouldn't allow me to wear my MX boots.

Yeahm, found this:

and:
http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/acatalog/d3o ... -jean.html - armour sounds good.

If you dont have special armour then where about do kevlar jeans, on average, come in the ranking of abrasion and accident safety?

IF Leather was a 10 and a good textile was 7.. Kevlar jeans = ?

They'll be more than adequate for a 125 twist and go.

Yeah, that is fine with me so long as I KNOW that they will at least stop my skin coming off if I slide at, say, 40 MPH - a lowside round a bend.
If they are that protective then it would be nice to wear them on casual trips.

I do. On my bike too. I think they'd stop reasonably heavy gravel rash tbh

Normal jeans offer absolutely no protection whatsoever

Absolutely, the last thing on my list now is a pair or two of decent protective pants - probably one textile and one kevlar casual jeans. Will likely get full leathers for next spring/summer if I get a sports bike as well.

I have a pair of RST Kevlar Jeans, really sturdy yet comfortable good enough for scooter motoring.

Try looking at the Aerostich stuff. I just bought a second pair of their Khakis so I look "normal business casual" at work. Their jeans also look quite nice.

I haven't given them a real try, and don't plan to. I can only hope they do what they claim if I need them.

Having owned Many Brands of Kevlar Jeans, I've found "Diamond Gusset" to be the most comfortable all day......They can be bought online, but living in the "Motorcycle Mecca" that I do, we have a Diamond Gusset Retail Store on the square in Lynchburg, Tennessee now..... 8)

I looked at various Kevlar jeans at a bike show once. It seems like most of them had kevlar only in certain spots and none of them seemed to have kevlar in the crotch!

I have used armoured kevlar jeans for the last 10 years or so. Had a spill on my Triumph 900 a few years back and they protected me fine.
